agree about politicians but Portillo seems to have re-invented himself as a documentary presenter and at least when he is talking about Britain he is very patriotic unlike some ex politicians.
Are your neighbours related to that famous historian who centuries ago noted "that North of the Wash may be considered desolate land"?

Could possibly be Ulverston but will have to check as I have a feeling it was a bit further North as it had the remains of one of the best preserved Roman bath houses so I am thinking it was more up around Seascale or Ravenglass, will have a look on IPlayer to see if I can find the episode.
