fire in containers , photo, no news of it being extinguished yet. Attachment 13106
It will be interesting to find out what was in those containers that have caught fire and how the fire started.
Best guess has to be products stowed inside not been correctly stowed, moving around, breaking open and mixing with some other product and the mixture creating a flammable product.
Containers carrying dangerous goods are mainly stowed on deck (if possible) but regulations require vertical and horizontal separation of different classes of dangerous goods.
Abandoned ship section under tow and it catches fire. Strange?

Wreckage grinding against each other or water mixing with chemicals from a damaged container perhaps.
I wonder how many Lithium-Ion batteries are aboard?
Too many Box Boats suffer Cargo Fires, one last week in the Gulf of Aden, a Big Maersk Ship, that big MSC Ship in the Atlantic some time ago, had to be abandoned because of Cargo Fire, towed to Germany weeks later, it seems a common event, needs stricter control of Weights and Contents, and better segregation of hazardous goods. with better fire fighting equipment, problem is the small Crews, wild horses would not get me on one, should be strict Penalties for Mis Information on Cargo Contents and Weights.
Nothing to do with small crews Tony. If the contents of a box are subject to spontaneous combustion , mixing with other hazardous
materials , mixing with sea water etc , etc , etc , all the crews in the world aint going to stop that happening .
fire still raging on mol comfort for the second day, waiting for assistance of indian coast guard cutter, the tugs unable to control the blaze, not looking good, would imagine if too much water is pumped to fight the fire it could sink her, weather still adverse.
