a Fireman WaterTender looked after Steam Pressure and Water Levels in Boilers, a Fireman was responsible for Steam only, Oiler is another one, American equivalent to a Greaser.
Have no idea if or what Lascar Engine Room Ratings were called, the Deck Crowd were named differently. ? ?
Kenny I've no idea what she meant, other than that she was reminding you, and not-too-subtly perhaps, to take her back an Oriental Tea Set and 200 Full Strength fags.! :hair_raising:
The only one I used was N.O.R.W.I.C.H. (Nickers Off Ready When I Come Home),but that was a taken for granted happening anyway- -well,usually---the thrill was just in writing it----and the anticipation.....

. Hi John, The Fireman Watertender also had to watch the water levels in the Boilers.
In 1954 I was on the TECTUS, a Shell T2 Tanker, half of the Firmen skinned out in Curacoa because we were going east of Suez.
I went down below and signed on Fireman Water Tender, The pay was 10 shillings a month more for the Water Tending job. I had experience of coal burning on the BEECHFIELD so That is why I volunteered, The stokehold there was like an ice cream parlour compared with a coal burner. All I had to do was change the tips on the burners before the end of the watch and watch and top up the water levels.
Cheers
Brian.

I never got any of those, I only ever got `Dear Johns` that were then pinned to the notice board in the mess room.
Brian.
Same thing happened to me.
My cabin mate [ex] stuck my dear John on the notice board and I had to buy beer for all hands.
50 years later I am still married to the lady in question. Obviously she realised she was missing the chance of a life time.[dont tell her I said that]
