I saw it as well,Brian, though I probably wouldn't have replied to the thread. It'sprobably been deleted.
In my opinion Sparkies were no more 'stranger' than many of us at sea, whether Irish or not-as the originator inferred in his deleted post!

If anyone thinks that remarking that a lot of sparkys were Irish in the 50 60 and 70"s is discimatory, God help our society. This would at the most opened up the employment situation in Ireland at this time. Censorship of such is to the owners of the sites perogative, but to me ranks of over protection of what I dont know. John,
There were Marconi schools all around Ireland even earlier than the 50's. The little town Cathairsaidbhin near to where I lived in the south-west had one. This was probably due to the many trans-atlantic cable stations in the area.
As an Irishman I don't get as to how this can be discriminatory???? I do remember once telling a sparky friend of mine that he was mad so he brought me into the radio room and put the headphones on me, when I removed them he said "now if you had to listen to that every day you would be equally mad" lol
That could have a double meaning you know, the sides of coffins are made of wood.
.
Hi John,
When I used to help the Undertakers, carrying heavy stiffs into the prep room, next door to Anne`s Flower Shop after I retired, They had a room with all kinds of coffins in, there solid oak ones, very expensive, Plastic ones of various colours, Chip board ones with a veneer, these were the most popular, , Whicker ones and Cardboard ones for the enviromentally minded stiff because they were bio degradable.
The cardboard ones were very strong, I helped to lift a VERY LARGE lady, around 18 stones, into one, the Man said it was no problem the box could take the weight.
So if you can feel wood, plastic, whicker cane or cardboard with your elbows that wasnt there last night when you went to bed then start to worry.
Pleasant Dreams
Brian.
Bob more or less what I said to Bill. Nothing at all untoward either in the post or answers, would have proved to be very interesting as believe there are a few sparkys on this web. Cheers John Sabourn
