Regrets at Sea

Jim we should always grab any chance that comes our way if we can to avoid regrets. Le..
. That is right Le.That is why I go away every year for a few months, I have seen more places on the planet than I ever did when I was seafaring for most of my working life.
SHE loves it, cos she has now been vitually everywhere, from the Canadian Arctic to Cape Horn and the Antarctic.
Both side of North and South America round Africa, North South east and west. The Gulf, India, Malaya ,Thailand ,Singapore, Viet Nam Hong Kong, Shanghai China, Japan , Philipines, Australia top and bottom and side tio side, almost all the Pacific Islands, in Polynesia., the Cooks, TahitI, Moorea , Bora Bora, Maquesses, Kiribati, and the Tuamotus so on.
The world is a wonderful place. It is not that expensive to do it. Good planning. I stopped smoking and most drinking,
on my last trip across the Pacific on Queen Elizabeth my bar bill was NIL.
I figured the costs, if I am away for three months in winter I am warm in the tropics, , then three months pension has gone into the bank, three months food money at the supermarket. @ £80 a week. Three months electricity and three months gas and water Bills all saved. No petrol bought for the car. it all mounts up so at the end of a day the cost of travelling around the world is quite cheap.
If I dont spend it THEY will take it off me, Last Thursday a friend, I have known her since a teenager, and is Loaded, Mega Thousands of Pounds, had to go into a Care Home. It is costing her Many thousands of pounds a year, House has been sold, and her life saving are going to feed some Capitalist Home owner. Who, no doubt will be travelling the world on her money. I had been telling her to spend her money on enjoying life, but No , I have to save up for my old age, Now it is here and she cannot spend it.
What are you all saving up for in your 70s, ??? for someone to take your house and all your savings?
So if you do not want these blood suckers to get there filthy hands on your hard earned money then you had better get it spent Muy Pronto. and Go and see the world you missed. There are no Lap of Honours of Life.
When I am broke I will get the benefits so far denied me by the State, My Council Tax paid and free glasses and dental and so on.

Hi Jim,took the wife,daughter Karen,granddaughter Faye,and great grandson Brandon age six down to Waterloo Marine,little Brandon on all the park swings and slides and others.then went to feed the ducks,swans,and geece,then on the beach to see the Gormley Iron men.went the cafe on the way up South Road for a good meal.all hands were happy for a good day out.Ken.

I was fortunate enough to visit the Far East, Had a year out there on a Shell tanker. Bit of a rough old tub but we did have fun. Four weeks in dry dock in Hong Kong,still a Crown Colony then.Several regular trips between Singapore (Paulo Sambu and Paulu Boukham) to Japan. Unusually for a Shell tanker in those days,we never made it to Australia. Have had several fantastic holidays there since. Great Country,great people. I think if that tanker had taken me to OZ,I would have done what so many did then (1953/54) and jumped ship. Too late now for regrets.These days I couldn't be bothered with the hassle of moving house,never mind moving Countries.

Hi Ken,my grandson was down at the marina today something todo with the paralympic torch.I believe that there was quite some crowd down there.

Hi shipmates, my regrets were never getting to the west cast of the america and NZ, I spent of time going to the far east and spent more time in the gulf than many of our arab cousins. But then we were all lucky we chose a career at sea, and not taking my new wife with me when had the opportunity.
