Re: Explanation Please Ray! Thanks
To my knowledge the home was always administered by trustees and committee people associated with the British Merchant Navy especially the old National Union of Seaman (NUS) when the union amalgamated with the National Union of Railwaymen to become the present day Rail and Maritime Union (RMT) there is a department within the union that has its own Assistant General Secretary that overseas all things Maritime including the Sprinbok Home, the majority of men that are in the Maritime part of the Union are guys who work in the North Sea oil sector and on various ferries. I used to meet the late Bob Crow and his A.G.S. (An ex Scouse seaman) regularly when they used to attend the annual Merchant Navy Memorial day at Tower Hill. I am sure other members must have recognised Bob Crow as He would always have a beer in the Liberty Bounds (Wetherspoons Pub) as the guy was always being lampooned in one tabloid or another with associated pictures.
