THE HELL IT WILL !!!!

Definititely sounds like someone didn't exactly get the message that this will NEVER be considered appropriate by people who's families are remembered there etc or fellow comrades etc - I would imagine that they will be inundated again for responses - also makes you think it's MV more than TH who are pushing it?

I am attending a ceremony at Trinity House at the end of November and will make enquiries while I am there. As you have said we will not let this go.
This also ties up with my next project.
Although Tower Hill Memorial is visited by many people to pay their respects to our war dead, many are not aware of the individual stories behind each ships name. I have now started my next book "The Sea is Their Grave" The book is going to detail all 2089 ships listed on the Tower Hill Memorial WWII section (excluding the Fishing Fleet, as that will be another project)
The photographs shown of some of the individuals on Tower Hill Memorial at the link Keith put up are what I placed by their names on Merchant Navy Day this year and I will replace with new ones in November.

Lutfur Rahman cancels the bankers’ booze-up in Tower Hill
Lutfur Rahman cancels the bankers’ booze-up in Tower Hill:
Much debate occurring at:
Link: Lutfur Rahman cancels the bankers’ booze-up in Tower Hill « Trial by Jeory
You couldn't make it up etc:
Hang on a minute here. I’m glad to hear that a stop has been put to this extremely stupid proposal for staging inappropriate events in the gardens, however there’s a bit more to it than that.
What’s good about a Mayor calling off an event when his officers should have had the good sense to realise it should never have been under discussion in the first place.
* Is he suggesting that he is calling off the event because of the protests – rather than because it was always a totally inappropriate idea?
* Why’s he not more surprised that his officers were progressing the proposal? Did he think it was OK up until the point where people started to object?
* Does the Mayor need to have it pointed out to him (yet again) that respect of the war dead is very important.
I’d love to know what guidance has been given to the Licensing People – or whoever was involved with this – re. granting entertainment licences on public open space in this borough – particularly where that open space involves graves and war memorials.
Or maybe it was the Parks people – we all know how they like to have their palms greased when it comes to events….
Who exactly came up with the idea for letting this space be used for events such as this in the first place?
I looked up Trinity Square Gardens to check its status and found the following on the Keep Britain Tidy site. It’s a little muddled as to who owns the land but it clearly indicates that the site is managed by Tower Hamlets Council – which I assume means managed by the Parks Department.
“These formal gardens have a rich history and great views of the Tower of London. They contain lawns, bedding and shrub beds (designed for interest every day of the year), fine trees, memorials to the Merchant Seamen who died in both world wars and to those executed on the former Tower Hill scaffold. The Gardens were created by special Act of Parliament in 1797 and restored in 2003. We manage them with the Corporation of London and the War Graves Commission for the enjoyment of thousands of tourists and office workers, as well as visitors to the memorials.”
I wonder if anybody bothered to check out what the special Act of Parliament has to say about what can happen on this land……
PS Did anybody know that this area is also the site of the former Tower Hill Scaffold which was where Sir Thomas More (and a lot of other people) were executed – because I certainly didn’t! It’s located immediately adjacent to the war memorial area.

I have noticed that the Vindicatrix Association has never mentioned anything about the Tower Hill booze up for the Bankers.
It has over 5,000 members and yet not a peep out of them, I wonder why? or am I missing something.
This BMN Old Friends site has said it all.
I was at the Vindi in 1952.
Cheers Brian.

As the original submitter of this thread I would first like to apologise for not replying to the thread earlier as I have been away for a while and since coming back (on thursday) my computer is constantly freezing.
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all the members who have contributed, I thought this info would have made your blood boil. I would further like to thank Brian and Ivan for the continuation of getting to the roots of this issue at Trinity House. I await to see if they come clean.

I am still awaiting replies to my letters sent Trinity House, but have within the last 30 minutes received a reply from the "Offices" of the Bank of England in response to my email of 10th October to the Governor of the Bank of England. The email has given me a further address to contact if the need arises. I have forwarded it to Brian and he may post it on site.
I would like to thank you for initiating the post and bringing the unpleasant proposal to our attention and as long as blood is flowing through my veins then this pair of hands will continue to scribe.
All the best Ivan

First heard of all as I neared vacation, notified all and sundry while away, as had the lap top on my travels. many have joined in world wide.
Thanks for your part played, which is immense, thank you to all else that entered the fray.
Considerations are to seek answers from governing bod's, but to me an assurance that this will never be considered ever, again, would suffice.

Dear Mr Strange
Thank you for your recent email concerning a licensing application to use Trinity Square Gardens for corporate events. The Council received considerable feedback on this proposal and in the light of this Mayor Rahman made the following announcement on Monday 8 October:
“Staging events in the Gardens was an idea put forward by Trinity House who have been working with the Council and the proposed event organisers - so I am surprised by comments made this weekend. The Council do not wish to cause any offence to any of the parties involved. As it no longer has the support of Trinity House and the maritime community I have put a stop this event."
I hope that this reassures you that the Council intended no disrespect to the people remembered through the War Memorials and appreciate that the Mayor was quick to act once the feelings of the community were known.
Thank you for taking the time to write to the Council concerning this important issue.
Yours sincerely
