What an excellent letter. Well done Ivan, very well expressed and to the point. Thank you.
Chris
I can only echo what Chris has said about the letter that Ivan has sent Trinity House. A brilliant piece of prose.
Regards,
John.
Excellent in composition and layout, Ivan, surely he cannot ignore you if it gets past the post room censors !
well done ivanyou are a good ex seaman also a scholar
Ivan,
After reading your letter this morning I experienced a strange feeling of pride, albeit a 'reflected' pride in knowing that I enjoy a small association with the composer of such a brilliantly worded letter. No, I'm not suggesting a statue in your honour just yet, mate, but acting on our behalf you have carried out a difficult task with distinction, for which I thank and salute you. You realise of course that you and Chris Allman will probably be called upon to share 'scribe' duties should ever the need arise in future - you have both been warned !!!
If, as I imagine, Sir Jeremy is an honourable and reasonable man, I think it unlikely that your letter will be received with anything other than the respect it deserves, necessitating a reply in due course. Whether such reply meets with your/our approval remains to be seen.
Finally, I would like to extend my thanks and appreciation to Brian (Probetts) for adding his endorsement to our cause.
............................best regards, Roger.
Failure to acknowlege such an inforative and well scripted letter would surley be a travesty to those who made the ultimate sacrifice. But the letter shows the depth of feeling among ex Merchant Seamen, a feeling that would not be as obvious in many parts of the population.
It is my wish that not only Trinty houseand Tower Hamlets council learn from this, but also other bodies many of whom would not give a second thought to organising such events in similar circumstances. I feel only good can now come from all of this,
Well said,Ivan. Regards, Colin
Ivan, I did suggest that someone of a literary bent should write to Trinity House, I could not have wished for better. Well said, thank you.
Pete
Thank you boys for all your kind words, it makes one very humble and appreciative of the service we served and the men we served with.
Today I received a letter from John Prescott, as I am no good at attachments on this site, I will type it out, so bear with me:-

Dear Mr Cloherty
Thank you for your letter concerning the apalling decision to allow the Merchant Navy Memorial in Trinity Square Gardens to be used as an entertainment venue.
I am pleased to say that, quite rightly, the Mayor of Tower Hamlets council has vetoed the plans to allow this memorial to be used for such purposes.
Thank you again for taking the time to write to me on this very important subject.
With Best Wishes
John Prescott
Rt Hon Lord Prescott

Well lads we now have this letter and his address should we need to use the "Lord's" services in the future, it will go in my "in case of need" file.
And once again thank you all for your kind messages.
