Yes Brian there were some names for pubs down there,what I will do on Sunday when I meet up with a few old hands is try and put some nicknames to pubs on the dock road.The Devils(the Coburg)Oily Joes(was that the A1 at Lloyds corner of Oil St.)The Long Bar (The Bramley Moor)Bloods (The Millers Castle,became the Dockers Hook)The Tit House (Cant remember the pub but the barmaids breast fell out whilst serving)The Seven Steps(what was the real name for that)Broken Nose Jacks (Well known pub but just cannot bring it to mind.I bet when I get them going on Sunday they will come up with lots and all the answers.The main one I am interested in is the Long Lobby,never heard of it!!

What memories, the O/head railway orange box carrriages, served my apprenticeship on the dock road before going to sea. What a tourist atraction it would be now, wasn't sorry to see the old slate urinals go from near each dock gate, Harry Hattons a must stop for all Cunard frieghters,he would even cash a post dated cheque ! The Caradoc, Winifred and Royal pubs at Seaforth all great watering holes.
The Maritania dry docked in the Gladston, walking across the fire buckled starboard side of the burnt out E of Canada, and later spending time in Sunderland with the then new E of C before the trials and hand ove and the maiden voyager with Canadian Pacific. Never to be repeated fantastic seagoing days. How lucky were we.

The Dock Road, Liverpool and Birkenhead was also peppered with dockers Cafe's. Stan Waters and Gee's come to mind.
Capt Kong,Broken Nose Jacks was the Boathouse,thats where they hold the Liverpool meet ups,its now knocked into one with the Atlantic.
