Re: Facts
Now to be sure where did the numbers come from.
Last time we looked the republic only had about 4.9 mil.
But then using Irish logic you could put the north, Ulster that is, in the numbers.

Re: Facts
John it was only a bit of light hearted humour.
But seeing as the thread is FACTS. If you add in Northern Ireland at 1.86 million and the Republic at 5.09 million so 6.95 million gave or take. So that would be about 3million and 21000 penguins each, so a fair fight then, mind you them Emperor Penguins are big buggers
Another fact Northern Ireland consists of 6 counties, the Province of Ulster consists of 9 counties.
Antrim , Armagh, Down, Tyrone, Fermanagh & Londonderry, these 3 counties Donegal , Cavan & Monaghan are in the Republic.
If all those who claimed Irish roots came home to Ireland the place would sink , some estimates say 100 million people world wide claim to have Irish ancestry.
For sure if they all turned up and wanted a Guinness there would not be enough glasses.

Re: Facts
James, you know little of Ireland then, if they all came home I can assure more than enough glasses would be found.
But if you look at the numbers of those who over time left Ireland for what ever reason you will find half the bloody world has some Irish background.
And without them Macalpines Fusiliers would never have built what they did.

Re: Facts
My cousin in Ireland has grand children that are related (fifth cousins I believe) to a certain Joe Biden in the US. One, or two of them, played rugby for Ireland.
