You are right there, how can one be proud of a team that more than likely contains only a few people from your own country, Clubs that would struggle buy in top players, which gives locals no chance of achieving fame. Seems to me that the media think every Australian is mesmerised by sport of whatever hue. Nearly every channel at the same time and the same monkey chat out of the mouths of commentators who must go to bed with it. If it’s not sport it’s actual shows such as married at first sight and advertisng illicit sex and other now legal sex of two same sex partners .The world is upside down maybe this is the cause of so called climate change . If one talks about something long enough it becomes fact. Similar to advertising over and over again the same products. If they were any good they wouldn’t need advertising they would sell themselves .2023 will be the same as all the years previously the general public being taken for the usual ride into phantasy. When I played soccer in my youth we used to carry our boots tied together by their laces and hung round your neck proudly as a sign that you played soccer. Today professional footballers probably carry their boots in a gold plated box and carried by their chauffeur out to the Daimler. JS.
As for the Olympic Games as soon as they took the word Amateur out of its title that finished it for me. JS

Very true, sport in Oz is a religion.
But here in Victoria Aussie Rules Football is all consuming for most of the population.
Even in the off season they play the female version and non stop pages in weekend papers about players and what they will do next season.
Then the evening news on some station, first item will be about some two bit player who did some thing stupid like crapping his pants in the pub.

Another abhorance re tv series such as police and such yarns is mainly on reruns of American soap operas where the music drowns out the conversation between actors , which is hard to decipher In The first place due to bad grammar. JS

The reason for the background music so loud is because the script is so poor and no one can understand the bloody Yanks.

Then Come the Academy Awards the musical director gets voted the best by all the actors he helped to protect by his loud music, as usual it’s who you know that counts. JS
