Remember many of those who come to UK as refugees or similar come from coutries where to see a GP you go to the hospital. They use the hospital in Uk in a similar fashion.

If I go to the US I have to have Medical Insurance, Last time I used it in the US my medical bill came to $88,000 US.
If that is happening in the UK then that is the Problem so you cannot blame the Government on that. Only that successive Governments have not brought in legislation to make them pay.
I also believe that all drunks and druggies who go to Hospital should be in a separate unit where they have to pay for treatment, If they can afford to destroy their health with alcohol and drugs then they can afford to pay for treatment.
But again I have NO Complaints about any hospital or Doctor.
Excellent treatment, saved my life a few times, and money IS Being spent on hospitals, Salford Royal , which is in a impoverished area , not a posh one, is one of the top four hospitals in the country and an extra TWO HUINDRED MILLION POUNDS is now being spent on it. The NHS is having the life squeezed out of it by politicans. Not putting all the blame on the current lot so don't be kicking off on one. The NHS is a great institution but is also an organisation that needs to become less wasteful.
A big help though is that the general public could do to assist take the pressure of the NHS, when you sneeze and have a runny nose just go to the chemist and buy lemsips as all you have is a cold. If you have the runs, it is because you have had a dodgy prawn, buy some imodium, that will weld your ars-shut. If you have a head ache and are well past your sell by date, it is just a couple of paracetomol you need, not viagra.
There was a doctor being interviewed this morning on Sky News she was saying about the hours she works and mentioned that on occassion she puts in over 13 hour shifts and has to miss out on eating( sorry but missing the odd meal will be doing her a favour) one of the reasons she said was if the next doctor due on shift is a no show she feels she has to carry on, that is dedication and thank you for caring.
I have to say this though and please do not go down my throat how many on here who were at sea worked a minimun 56 hour week? 7 days a week, very little paid overtime if any. While at sea I regularily put in 70 hour weeks and sometimes more, was on call 24 hours a day 7 days a week, deprived of sleep because of weather, risk of getting either drowned , blown up or kidknapped by pirates!!!! I am sure you get my drift, also there is no such thing now as a company pension were the ship owner pays in. Some companies point you in the direction of pension schemes but they do not contribute to them.
School teachers are bitching now as well. Do they still have pension schemes like the NHS, were the employer pays in.
Am I right to say that NHS workers can retire at 55? and draw there NHS pensions? also school teachers likewise, police officers to? I do know that the fire service are being forced out as every year thay have a strict medical to pass and when they fail they are booted out, more or less. I am not saying that these industries do not deserve to get an early retirement because of the nature of the job. Let's face it you cannot expect a fire fighter of say 55 years old to go into a blazing high rise in a BA set he is just going to eat oxygen as he does not usually have fitness levels of a lad 1/2 his age. It is just a fact of life. I am sure your grasp what I am trying to say. Public sector workers were always paid a bit less than the private sector because they had a decent pension scheme and retired earlier than the private sector. It has swung the other way now.
I have family in the NHS who do very very well , Dentist, Consultant hematologist, and a Pediatrician.
My nephew the consultant was very outspoken last year at a family gethering he was complaining that he was on call 1 weekend in 5 and he was actually on call that weekend. It was Christmas. He posted a photograph on socail media aimed at Jeremy Hunt saying that consultants do work weekends. The photo showed him at the hospital standing with nurses and other medical professionals this was Christmas morning. While he was having his rant, this was in a restaurant the same day as we were having christmas luncheon by the way. His father my brother, told him to wind his neck in and pointed out that while he was sitting eating and boring the **** of us all, he was actually getting paid £375 for his weekend on CALL.
I know these family individuals have studied hard to get to were they are today and we as a family are very proud of what they do. But personally I think the wage structure in the NHS is all wrong, yes specialists deserve to be well paid but perhaps not that well paid to the deprement of other health workers. I know at least two of these family members also do a lot of private treatments with in the NHS hospitals.The dentist(he is actually a dental surgeon) has a collection of Porche cars,3, I think he has now, he spends more time travelling around europe on a push bike that he says cost him £7000. The consultant spends more time with a camera in his hand as he is a well known photographer and has exhibited in London , Edinburgh and Glasgow. Am I jealous no, envious yes, jelaous no.
My lads best mate has just got married to a doctor and they were over here in france last summer. All she did was bitch about how poorly paid she was and how unfair life is. I asked her how long she had qualified , a month ago she says. So a junior doctor then, well yes but I am still qualified!!! no love you have a piece of payer that says you passed all your exams. You are qualified when you get a few years expeirence under your belt. Sorry but the country cannot afford to be paying everyone top dollar, unless we all pay in a lot more in taxes, which we all know will be happening within a couple of years if Labour win the next election, okay I will wash my mouth out with soap.
