The NHS

Hi Jim
They are only in Crisis due to the Massive increase in Population of the last few years due to Immigration from Europe and overseas. 30,000 refugees from Syria all needed medical treatment mostly for Mental problems as well as Physical.
The NHS wasn't designed to cope with massive influxes of people like that. That is the BIG Problem, Too many people
.
So why are there so many ill, unhealthy people in this country, ?? it is almost like an epidemic. We had more % of the population fitter in the 1940 s than we have today, Why are too many people having accidents,?? why??
Too many Obese people, too many Drunks, Too many Drug users. all take up space in A&E and in Beds.
The NHS will have to start Charging people who abuse themselves, If it is self inflicted charge them, If they can afford Booze and drugs, they can afford to be treated, if not, Tough.

we have already got enough nuclear weapons to turn the earth into glass don't the brains know this yet they want more is it a case of mines bigger than yours policy while people in the same countries that will pay for weapons are starving? were is their priority just the knowing that you attack us and so will you? is that not good enough one man can change this but they doe not why???? jp

My wife has been a nurse all her working life both for the NHS and Private sector. She worked in various departments, mental, geriatric, theatre, general and district nursing. During that time she was never answerable to a 'Manager'. Can anyone say what are the duties of a Manager. I was watching the news the other day and it was on a hospital ward talking about lack of beds and there was a Manager (man) there stating it was his job to go round all the wards counting how any empty there where. I understand there is a Ward Manager for every ward in every hospital so why was this man counting empty beds when the ward sister could give that information off the top of her head. There were other managers for all sorts of things relating to the running of the Hospital.

john I think its because hospitals of today compared with small ones scattered around Liverpool alone must have had about 30 small hospitals now there is only a few so managers are needed it might sound like red tape but one manager could not oversee the large 5 thousand or so beds plus the care is a lot different every doctor now pushes trollies with computers on and everything is on paper and in the computer so they are more like messengers to the boss sort of thing. jp

I understand that all things change as time goes on. When my wife started nursing it was at Newsham General Hospital, Liverpool.(1959) Long gone now. There was a Chief Doctor A Matron with her Deputy. The remaining nursing staff were actually on the wards. What I don't know is why all the managers are needed as they have no nursing experience.

Two weeks ago Anne was very ill during a Saturday night around Midnight. I phoned the Ambulance.
Big waiting time, I recognised a Liverpool accent on the phone. Where are you, I said. She says, Liverpool , I said I can walk to the Ambulance station in a few minutes. She says You will still have to wait your turn.

I kept phoning to see how long they would be, `We are very busy, said the Liverpool lady. Can I walk to the Station and get one, No she said , we are controlling appointments.
I waited Three Hours still no ambulance. I had been treating her myself, I took her Blood pressure, a little high, I guess due to the Stress.
Her pulse a little high same reason. I gave her paracetomol and calmed her down, by 3 am she was a little better, so I phoned up to Liverpool and cancelled the Ambulance.. I am glad it was Nothing too serious a wait of four hours is far too much.
I had told them I was near 82 and she was 78 years old and we were on our own, Made no difference.
Now I wondered how many ambulance calls would there be on a Saturday night in Liverpool, Wigan , Leigh and all the other towns in the Mersyside and Lancashire and Greater Manchester area would there be. and the head quarters here in Bolton but all from Liverpool, I was confused.
I can bet they were taking the drunks etc to A&E to be pumped out.

Brian my wife was on the train the other day when a woman took ill they stopped the train at a station and phoned for an ambulance an hour and a half later still no ambulance so the train was taken right through to Southport hoping for a better chance of getting an ambulance there.You know why you cant get an ambulance? it is because the ambulance crew are in A&E with a patient on their trolley waiting tobe seen,this was in the afternoon not a Saturday night in Liverpool.Like you Brian we have an ambulance station just along the road from us and the last ambulance I called for my wife came from Runcorn,quite some distance.
