Re: Notre Dame Cathedral on Fire
Fires can start in the most unexpected places, just like our bush fires here in Oz.
But recently on two occasions here in Melbourne we have had recycling yards go up in flames.
Last one contained over 25,000 litres of toxic waste and it is thought that caused the fire.
Did get rid of a lot of waste though.

Happy daze John in Oz.

Re: Notre Dame Cathedral on Fire
Officials speculate that a possible electrical short-circuit is responsible for the fire, in tandem with the cathedral's lack of fire-prevention safeguards. Words being used: could have been, may have been, most likely etc.
French judicial police believe an electrical short-circuit is most likely what caused the devastating fire that blazed through Paris' historic Notre Dame Cathedral on Monday. According to the anonymous official who spoke with the Associated Press on Thursday,
investigators still aren't allowed inside the cathedral for safety reasons.

PARIS — A "computer glitch" may have been behind the fast-spreading fire that ravaged Notre Dame, the cathedral's rector said Friday, "we may find out what happened in two or three months."

There is also a "money pouch" hanging from her belt which is an iconic Templar symbol of her status as a sponsoring patron saint of the Apostles.
The Notre Dame statue "proves" that surviving 15th century Knights of the Templar Order themselves considered Joan of Arc to be a Magdalene figure and a real Templar warrior-priestess.

Re: Notre Dame Cathedral on Fire
An old Blue Stone house was pulled down recently to make room for a new medical center.
Council said some of the stone must be incorporated into the new building.
That has been done and looks very impressive.
The doctor who owns the building searched for almost a year to find someone capable of doing the work.
He at last found an Irish migrant to do the job.
He is one of only three in the country as far as can be confirmed.

It is not so popular with those demonstrators (yellow coats) to spend so much money, they claim it could be better spent elsewhere. Most it seems will come from private investors anyway. Either way they seem confident it will be back in time for the Paris Olympics.

York Cathedral had a fire nearly 30 years ago and they are still restoring it.
It will take at least two years to carryout structural and ground surveys, five years is ambitious.
You don't employ your traditional brick is or joiner to carryout restoration, you require specialists and there is a shortage.

Re: Notre Dame Cathedral on Fire
Is Notre Dame worth what will ultimately be billions of euros?.
Modern tastes wouldn't call the cathedral beautiful, although they might think it to be amazing, fascinating, impressive, but not beautiful. I would go as far to say that medieval cathedrals are living buildings in two senses. They change over time and we only remember the versions of our time we visit.
Looking at the Notre Dame before the fire video in this topic, one will understand the keen sense to restore it.
Notre Dame has existed for over 800 years and is a magnet for visitors from across the world. Going back to how I started this post, I keep asking myself, should Notre Dame be given a new life, not just restored as copy of the old, but rebuilt as a modern triumph?.

Re: Notre Dame Cathedral on Fire
Fouro, the roof beam and trusses are from major oak trees, these were the strongest materials available at that time.
Why not replace with modern lightweight durable materials in areas which they are not seen.
