#26... I could say the same Rodney. Re 80 could also say that about cigarettes have seen me smoke 80 a day. There would be about 4 left in a 20 packet coming off a 4 hour watch. My fingers on a photo of me when just 16 are nigh on black with nicotine , have only been stopped for about 35 years officially, unofficially the last cigar I had was about 18 years ago. Drink I never had trouble with that is apart from spilling it. And apart from the wife calling me a an alcoholic , if had known Cappy then could have pointed at him and said Now that is what an alcoholic looks like. Just kidding Cappy but you must pay the price of being a teetotlar. And also the breaking of one of the commandments of bearing false witness. Still think the only one today followed is mum and dads birthday card. JS

Most of us were at one time smokers, I was on 100 Chesterfield a day at one time, gave it up in early 70's.

A good friend of mine here was in a similar situation to the family member Les mentioned.
Saw a different GP, changed his medication and he is like a new man.


We now have Euthanasia laws here in Victoria, I wrote to my local MP raising objections on the basis that there can never be enough safeguards to prevent wrongful use.
Aunty has a bucket of money, lets get rid of here she is past it anyway.
That was my concern, it could be abused because no matter how many rules and regulations to cover it there are always lawyers out there much smarted than the ones in gov.

if you can keep a good sense of humour you can laugh at yourself and if you can put a smile on someone's face that's even better? the nurses in the cancer wards I had them thinking the only reason for them working was to make me cups of tea. doctors /consultants always called me john not mr pruden. I woke up after being in a coma you know when you are in the sh.t when consultants each side of the bed and the padre at the foot they were getting a tube out of my throat {one like a washing machine pipe} the first thing I said to the consultant was are you a doctor or a …….g plumber he said you will be ok john we lost you twice last night I always ring the ward Christmas and new year to thank them I know I will never run a marathon climb Everest or deep sea diver but every day is a good one? sympathy comes between sh.t and syphilis in the dictionary ? just done my exercise's up 2/3 down 2/3 now the other sock stay happy lads? jp

Lads i thank you all for your kind thoughts and understanding, My reason for posting the original post was to let the lads around the world who are awaiting M.N. Memorabilia from me to be patient i never make empty promises if i cant deliver and assist a member i don,t offer but the response and kind gestures i have received from you all i thank you from the bottom of my heart. The latest in the M.I.L. Situation hasn't changed. The lord certainly threw the mold away when he made this lady although after last nights visit i must admit i was convinced my wife would get a phone call from the hospital. Its a terrible time for the family and whatever the outcome lets say she comes out of this coma state she is in.... by there own admition she will be a cabbage on a pillow just waiting to go and meet her maker. As far as the Euthanasia debate that this post has stirred i think we all agree this must be legislated for in cases like this, She has 16 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren the older ones in there teens i can see is having an effect on them and the younger ones cant understand other than she is not well, But its a strain on each and everyone of us my wife her sister and brother are ageing quickly as this goes on longer and longer. Once again those members awaiting M.N. Memorabilia from me i have archived all your addresses and wont let you down. You say `life is good, enjoy it`. I do not wish to appear to be disrespecting you but I must make a point here. Life is good for you so yes enjoy it to the full, but you just cannot assume that life is good for every one, because it certainly is not. So you have a scooter and enjoy getting about on it. What if you can no longer stand, or take the steps necessary to get to your scooter what then ? What if your scooter has to be disassembled and reassembled between uses and you no longer are able to do that ?
[At such stage one should perhaps be `in care`] You may then perhaps be a virtual prisoner in your home and dependant upon others for eveything. Can life then really be deemed good ? Again John, I really am not disrespecting you, I am simply trying to
make the point [for everyone] that we simply cannot and should not try to tell other people that their lives are good, because in so many cases that is just not so.

trampmanship try standing behind me trying to walk upstairs sounding like darth vader{breathing] going past people you have known for years but forgot their names yes sometimes I can walk I am not getting the blood to my legs so they go to sleep on me while out but one thing I will never do is feel sorry for myself I put on a good act to my family and friends sleeping downstairs many nights because the stairs may as well be a mountain you are not on your own many on this site is in the same boat but like you know in a boat you make the best of what you have got I make a living out of living I lie to doctors because of procedures they do on me? flushing my lungs what they don't tell you they flood them first basically drowning you do I just get on with it yes I am not ready yet for a wooden overcoat I and my wife over the past few years have spent many a night at the local hospice waiting on death watch and sometimes glad to see a loved one pass away and I am never going to put a rope around my neck never times years ago I could of fight for every day if you have nothing to look forward to tomorrow then give up??but I look forward to see the sunrise of a new day every day??jp

There lies a problem, the mind is sound but the body gone, or worse still the mind is shot but the body in good health.

How do we handle situations such as these , both cases could be called loss of life quality but who is to say which is worse.

The one with the sound mind may well still be able to enjoy life but in a way we do not fully comprehend
The one with the mind problem may well be living in a world of his own and happy there.


No easy answer to any medical situation, until wee reach a point none of us know how we will feel about it.

john if you work out what you can do rather than cant do in my mind there is nothing I cant do but my body won't let me its no fault that we are getting on a bit{well you lot are}?:p jp

In my previous post I did make the point that I was not disrespecting you. Your post above does suggest that I have said something that has not `gone down well` with you. If that is indeed the case then I can only sincerely apologise. Also John I was not feeling sorry for myself, but simply expressing a valid point of view based on personal circumstance. [and of course there are countless others of like mind]. I too put a brave face on before others [and inwardly cringe when they tell me how well I look]. So you still value your life style, well that`s fine John and I genuinely hope that you can carry on that way. However you surely must accept that there are many who would love to enjoy life, but are no longer able to do so. [I myself cannot even find the breath to make normal conversation with people]. That does not make cowards of them, surely ? Again, my apologies if I said something amiss.
