Two girls in my class at secondary school were the daughter's of a polish air force pilot, brand his family had escaped Poland when Hitler invaded and he flew spitfires in the battle of Britain and he had a number of distinctions for shooting down enemy planes. He was a fascinating fellow but rarely talked about his heroics but at any. Chance he would speak at length at hope grateful he was that Britain stood up to Hitler and also how glad he was to have been able to bring his family up in Britain. It also helped that his daughter's were stunners, one of whom was my girlfriend.
