He seemed to be a nice chap when I had a drink with him in Raffles.
If I remember rightly,
I think I bought the drink. and me a little old age pensioner.

It's taken me all these posts to realize what Osborne is being discussed wasn't there a polly by that name? Not being a follower of professional soccer I have nothing to contribute. But if people are arguing about his remuneration that is between him and his employers. As far as I am concerned, professional soccer is big business so whatever he gets Hes worth it to other people who make money out of his achievements and the best of luck to.him and anyone else who can make an honest penny. There will always be people jealous of what other people earn and cast doubts on that persons integrity, we all attempt to make as much money as possible during our working life, so we all suffer the same lllness. I remember in the uk the first builders labourer who received 1000 pounds a week, and why shouldn't he, he put the hours in. However it made headline news and all the class system showedi its ugly face. The uk is rife with the class system and is only camouflaged over recent years. This is more obvious when you live outside of it looking in. Just have time to edit this post and gone back and reread, started off with George Osborne the polly ?. And then went on to footballers. As far as George Osborne the politician have nothing to say as would be prejudiced, as far as the apparent non existent George Osborne the footballer let him sell his skills to the highest bidder. If George Osborne was the former treasurer, he would only appeal to certain people as regards his achievements. JWS.
We are all born with the same chances in life, It is what you do with it that counts.
Everyone is in charge of his own destiny.
I did what I did because I wanted to, No desire to be a millionaire footballer or Business man or Politician, and at 82 years of age I am content and happy, ,
I still sail around the world every year, I still enjoy myself, a glass of wine with dinner at the weekend, I work out with weights every day, keep myself fit, Maybe I have a better life than many millionaires, I know a few Miserable ones who are Not enjoying life, but that is their problem. I donate to charities from my pension,
Happiness is not made from money, but with what you do with your life and with those around you.
Each to his own.

Brian a clear conscience is worth more than anything else. You have to be able to able to live with yourself before you can live with anyone else. Hence most of us liked to leave a ship leaving no bad smells behind, if we did we had to live with them. Today however my 2 pet hates are politicians of whatever hue and certain sections of the press. Who do more to spread despondency and alarm than ever Goebells achieved. Cheers JWS.
good knowledge of Tranmere rovers there Lewis,I've been a few times, opposite the ground is a pub cant remember the name, but it had a good size car park. When I first visited the pub I was outside talking to an old boy who was a kind of car park attendant come pot man , an ex seaman about 70 from Birkenhead I offered him a pint which he accepted, then he put it on the wall at the side with 3 other pints ,and told me next season see me and I will get you in the car park for free, which he did on about 4 other occasions when I went to watch Charlton away. Each time I bought him his Pint that he put on the wall, Sadly he died just before my last visit.
The pub was the Mersey Clipper, Bob, it has been renamed now and called the Birch Tree.
Further to my postinmg yesterday about the tax man and his plan for 'sports superstars'.
The treasurer has come nad and said no way Hose, they will not get special treatment.
Then today the leader of the Labor party has said if they win the next election they will impose higher taxes on the high earners and reduce tax for the workers?????
A great way to stiffle any one wanting to get on and do well.

Brian the first part of your statement I cannot agree with, the second part I do.
For an example our dear Queen was born in the same year as my mum. I think the Queen had a leg further up the ladder than my mum.
Lewis,
That is just one person'
I was born in a slum in 1935,, we had Nothing , we had Nowt, then WW2, then our slum dwelling was bombed by the germans, so our Nothing turned into Less than Nothing. just the rags we stood up in. never had a family for six years, farmed out to different houses. No school, I could not read or write when I was 11 years old.
Now I have two homes, one here and one at the seaside, I go cruising for two or three months a year round the world.
I did all this because I worked hard and invested wisely.
I had nowt, I never wanted to do that again. so I took care of myself.
Anyone could do it, wasn't to hard to do.
Today our country is a Nation of Envy, "Why should you have this and that and I don't, I want some for Nothing attitude, " TOUGH.
You are what you want to be,
Brian.
