Further to my original post, # 18, the front page story in this mornings NZ Herald is about the huge number of modern buildings which were built to the latest design codes and will need massive strengthening or complete demolition and re-built. This will cost billions so could everyone out there rush out and buy a few sides of lamb, and a few cartons of Kiwifruit, we will need the money !!!!! Regards Peter in NZ

with her unlimited powers, I've always remained loyal to NZ and will buy their products whenever possible, good luck NZ

I think that port would have been Bluff, that was a one horse town , can't think of any other place that would have been that small; but it had a big freezing works, all they had there, except for oysters to die for, the best in the world.The nearest town would have been Invercargill but no one used to go there, I was in Bluff many many times and never once went there.
I remember being tied up alongside in Wellington one time with a line over the side fishing; when this fair size wave came across the harbour followed by a lot of smaller ones, rocked the ship about a bit, it was just another quake, I never gave it a second thought at the time. Hopefully they will not have another big one for years.
