Harold Wilson signed the Lima Agreement, for all Rich countries to share their industrial wealth with the poor nations.
Harold being a good Socialist closde around 220 coal mines to Import Polish coal as it was a very poor country then.. He also closed down all the Textile Cotton Mills of Lancashire, 100,000 cotton workers out of a job, 20,000 in Bolton alone. all the machinery boxed up and shipped out to India. Now hundreds of desolate cotton mills that no one wants just rotting away.
a bloody disgrace.

Was also PM during the seamans strike of 1966, which was the start of the downhill slide in shipping. His Yorkshire twang was a put on, knew a master who travelled up with him in Buffet car from Kings Cross to the NE. Spoke in the best Queens English with an Oxford or Cambridge manner. JS.

Harold Wilson, the slimiest politician I ever met (not that I have met all that many). My sister and husband lived in Frodsham (over looking the MSC) and I was down visiting her and went to one of their friends parties (who were big in the local Labour party) and he was there. Yes he did speak posh and yes he would not speak to any person below the rank of Lord do and so. The look he gave me when I was introduced to him as a Merchant Navy man, well it was I was a piece of dog dirt that needed wiping off his shoe.
Think that meeting started my inherent mistrust and dislike of all politicians.

#####fouro its a waste of bloody public money .....it is ofcourse brought up by the same loony left that tried to bring the government down .......the mines were too heavily subsidised by taxpayers money ....harold wilson started the closing down....the loony left never complaint till maggie got in ....scargill is still living off the miners pension fund......i have a relative who stood for hours on the police line while some not all walked up and spit on him ...he was drenched in spittle .....so when the order was given to breakit up ....he was soaked in spit and he then got busy .......no pictures of the constant spitting ....but plenty of poor scargill squarking like a woman fetching off as they dragged him away........and of course of the spitters running as the police dispersed them....why not get that funnny little scottish woman to get an enquiy intio the clearances 250 years ago ....but for gods sake use scottish funds ....ps if there are any left now .....regards cappy

There was a time, madness effects us all at some time, when I considered Wilson to be the real deal. You learn from your mistakes as you go through life.
I wrote to him on an issue and recieved a reply which I still have. Maybe I should put it on e bay??

There were no miners murdered by the Police,but what
about the Welsh taxi driver who was murdered by
two striking miners and I think they got life sentences.If I remember
rightly this strike was not voted on by the miners,they were ordered
out by the unions,making it illegal,if it had been legal I think more
people would have been behind them and the outcome may have been
different.
