Difficult one again John for the police to differentiate between a 'mental issue' antisocial attack and an act of terrorism.I suppose the best way for them is to assume a terrorist attack initially until other factors emerge,and I don't blame them.
There are also very many mentally ill people out there.They do indeed live and breed amongst us.I know many of us 'well' people find it hard to get our heads round acts of terrorism these days,so I can only imagine what such concepts of terrorism can have on the minds of an already mentally ill person.

One is even suing the Gov because another Con knocked two teeth out, he wants £20,000.

The attacker in Russell Square is said to be a Norwegian of Somali descent. To me this implies that he is a Norwegian citizen. I don't know Norway's immigration policy these days but back in 91 when I started working for a Norwegian founded company, Norway would target its overseas aid to a certain country or area of the world annually and people from that country would be able to gain immigration to Norway. They were then given 3 years to learn how to speak, read and write the language before they would be granted Norwegian citizenship. If they failed the test they were deported. This may have changed by the late 90's when Norway joined the E.E.A. (as a means of avoiding cabotage), which meant that all though not being part of the EU a number of EU regulations applied (possibly the freedom of movement caper). The language rules applied to anyone living a working in Norway irrespective of there native country or even if they did not take citizenship. There were a number of U.K. people working in the office in Norway who had learnt the language but still remained U.K. citizins. After working there for 3 years, even if they did not take Norwegian citizenship they became liable to Norwegian taxation so some of them would leave and then rejoin in order to prevent being liable to Norwegian taxation though most of the U.K. guys had met and married Norwegian girls so were happy to pay Norwegian taxes as it gave them access to the very generous Norwegian social security and pensions system.
Even allowing for all that in the mid 90's Norway was becoming increasingly concerned over a certain religion as their members had virtually taken over one suburb in Oslo and the government were inn the process of taking steps to prevent that area becoming similar to Brians town.
On a slightly different note I see a town in France has told a Halal retailer to sell Pork and alcohol or lose its licence. Way to go!!!!

##my daughter on business in london was shocked on arriving in a taxi to find the road teeming with police and seeing a man ..who was the attacker being taken away ...the street in which her hotel was based was cordoned of and she could not gain access to the hotel ......she was quite shaken by the whole event ....but sadly visits london once or twice a week on business...and is not a happy traveller at this time.....cappy

Its getting bad Cappy when you have to worry about family going about their everyday business. Used to be just areas you gave a wide berth to. I cant see it getting any better either without severe restrictions put into place, then you get all the clamour about peoples rights of free movement and all the rest of it. Otherwise it will finish up with the ghettoes of years ago. Cheers John S.

What is sad is that for well over a century places like lay gate in South Shields large part to the northwest many other towns throughout the North and Midlands have had strong Asian Communities and not one ounce of trouble a lot of these Communities kept themselves very much to themselves opened a few Bangladeshi restaurants and never bothered the rest of the world it's a shame that there silent minority is branded because of a few nutcases

Yes Gulliver #71 it was a difficult case. But to my mind any such act committed in this manner, be the person mentally deranged or not, still constitutes an act of terror.
Murder is usually one person, but this was an attack on multiple persons which by it's very nature creates terror for those involved.

I see on the news that London now has a group of 500 fully armed police on duty 24/7. Sign of the times I fear.

As to Norway, similar in Denmark if you wish to become a citizen you must learn the language. Lady from Tasmania married the Prince but had to learn to speak Danish before she was allowed to marry.
