Cash and crash

We have the 'Tap and Go' technology here but only to the value of $100 per transaction,m though the supermarkets will accept it the grog store attatched to it will not!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
The police say thta since the technology was introduced credit card crime is up by over 400%. Cards are stolen to be used on the tap and go but by the time the owner finds out and notifies the bank thousands could have been spent. The bank guarentee to honor any money stolen this way, that is fine but it affecst the profit of the banks and we all get slugged.

I carry money the same way as at sea wallet in the side pocket with your hand on it? mind you with all my grandkids my wallet thinks I have left home:pjp

John I had reason to go into Santander today I asked them about the no PIN number card I was told that there is no such a thing.New cards will have a facility for making small purchases for say around £15.00.so if you went into McDonalds for instance and had a burger and coffee you would just swipe your card across a scanner.I asked about multiple purchases in one day and I was assured that that would be picked up by their fraud squad.So carry on as normal.

My understanding is with this type of card i that you do not have to insert it into a reader as they work on some sort of wireless technology.
I read that M&S was trying it out in one of their stores, customers using the new cards were debited for the same goods twice, other customers that hadn't bought anything were debited for goods not purchased.
It appears that you only have to walk by the reader with the new card, and it automatically updates the reader - be warned and careful.

#23- Thanks Jim for some enlightenment re the new Santander debit system, although the information you received in relation to the detection of multiple usage and the fraud squad monitoring system, makes me wonder how many times i'll have to visit the bridewell to bail the missus out after shopping in Liverpool One.

Worse than the sacners are the scammers who have a debice thta can read your card details through your pocket and into your wallet. We had the local police liasion officer give a talk at the local community health centre about this and other issues. You can prevent this by buying a metal card holder case, or if this is not to you liking just line the inside of the wallet where you keep the card with cooking foil. Saddest part of the talk was about drugs when she told us that the majority of western countries have now admitted they have lost the war on drugs. Our police here are convinced that if you remove the criminal element from drug taking there is a good chance we may be bale to reduce usage.
