What a great subject, I love old movies. We have a television channel here called TCM, Turner Classic Movies, which runs old movies 24 hours a day, mostly from the '30s, '40s and '50s, but also silent films as well.
Doc, you had Captains Courageous right. Just saw it the other day as a matter of fact.
As for my favourite, Mrs. Miniver comes to mind but there are really too many to list. I think Doc mentioned The African Queen - fabulous film. The African Queen is in Key Largo, Florida and I have photos of her somewhere. Sadly, they're not taking very good care of her down there and she's covered in bird doo-doo.
The Charles Laughton Mutiny on the Bounty is by far the best version. Another Charles Laughton film I love is Hobson's Choice, just brilliant.
Could go on and on for sure... So, William, you are not at all on your own on this one. As far as I'm concerned, most new films don't hold a candle to the old ones.
Yes Jacyn
As you there we also have that TCM Channel, its really great and as said shows some really good oldies! And also 24hrs a Day great !

Thinnk I might have sailed with him on UCL, lot of guys talked about the phantom gobbler.
A Night to Remember, the best version of Titanic with Kenneth Moore. But som eof my favourites,
West Side Story, Oaklahoma, and Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. Of the more modern ones Godfather part one, but one of the best Casablanca. \Of all the Gin joints in all the world you have to walk into mine'
Hi Jacyn,
the African Queen came to Liverpool a few years ago, I went on board to have my photo taken. she was in very good condition then, Some guy who owns a hotel over the water owned it at the time.
