I see Merkel today complaining about the situation in Ukraine, she does not want it split despite what the people of Crimea may wish for. She obviously wants a bigger EU to be in charge of, next thing you know she will proclaim she is queen of Europe.!!!!!!! and she most likely never heard of UCL.
Going back to meat production David Cameron yesterday vowed to defend the religious slaughter of animals in Britain.In a strongly pro-Jewish speech to the Israeli Knesset, Mr Cameron said he would never allow a ban on the production of kosher meat, despite a call from Britain’s leading vet for it to be replaced by more humane methods.Earlier this month, John Blackwell, president-elect of the British Veterinary Association, called for a ban on the traditional production of both kosher and halal meat.
I had understood that in the EU pre stunning was compulsory , and believed this to be the case in New Zealand , so the major difference was the religious words said as the animal was killed , Outside the EU , and certainly in many a farmers back yard across Europe there is no pre stunning , Then in reading up on it large cattle cannot be pre stunned as the Bolt stuns but would lead to death anyway , and the electric pre stunning used in sheep , pigs and poultry is not suitable for large animals .
Now I am no animal rights wimp , but I am not happy with the thought of ritual slaughter without the stun in the UK of Beef cattle , but if you research it an awful lot of abattoirs and food service suppliers are using halal meat , there is a symbol , to show meat , or food products are from ritually killed sources , similar to the red tractor symbol , but I think it is not compulsory , I think it should be !

On arranging our daughter's wedding meal for later this year in Edinburgh, the venue sent the assorted menus, stating categorically that no halal meat would be used, I didn't even have to ask.:) Hip, hip......

Rob, here inOz they do stun all cattle before cutting their throat, bolt no longer used. One Golden Arches here tried doing away with bacon and using only Hal la burgers, lasted about six months, sales fell so much they went back to the old style.
