House Insurance.

Hi shipmates, Dave a business man, took out a policy "All risks" very high monthly payments to protect himself, and his small business, he employed 6 people he had an accident in work which damage his knee could not work or walk, for months after an oparation in a private hospital so made a claim? thats where it all started they found out he had a mental breakdown due to his time in northern Ireland a few years before? He did not tell them due to oversight, his policy payments were refunded and he was not payout for his claim result {No business and loss of 6 jobs} this is common place read the small print they use any excuse not to pay out , he was with a top insurance company not a backstreet fly by night one as allready said they are all crooks.

We have here in Oz a number of 'new' insurance companies, mainly run by the supermarkets. They say you can save a mozza if you do it right. So I did a couple of test runs on them for my vehicle. Price looked very good until I read the small print. No windscreen cover, no replacement vehicle while yours is being repaired, no cover for theft from vehicle. When I added all these in in came out more expensive than the current policy I have.
As to house, last year I had a row with my insurer, my bank, as the premium went up by almost 40%. When I looked into it I discovered they had added a flood levy. I live on top of a very steep rise, no water within cooee of me, for my house to flood Melbourne airport would need to under 15 meters of water????? After a number of dicussions and my threatening to go elswhere after 30 odd years with them they conceeded that thy had got it wrong.
You have to be on the ball with all of them.

One has to be very wary of you you go with!
Like you i have been with my Insurance Company since coming to Australia,and with all this time i have accumalated a good discount on all my Policies! I have quite a few with the same place it pays in the long run!
I have Comprehensive Car and Green Slip,House Building and Content,Travel Accident covering Road,Train,Busses ,Trains etc, and a few others!

As you may have guessed all with the NRMA Insurance Company,and yes like you John i too have done that excersise and also come out on top when really looking into them all! Cheap may be but not good!

Advertising can be a two way affair. A lot of money goes into promotion and angry customers can undo a lot of that. Our TV programme "A Current Affair" gets stuck into unfair practices and for me , if I am unfairly treated I sing like a canary at the top of my lungs.

A bugbear of mine too to be honest. I have some pretty valuable watches and the missus some diamonds so I expect my premium to be high but Prudential were totally taking the p*** with the rises in the premiums. Tried it online and it was about £300 cheaper (this was about three years ago). Phoned them and got the web price. Same again every year since. This year I phoned and before I even started my rant they had offered me what I expected to pay. Their argument for not giving that as the first quote is a pile of sh***. Try to tell me it is computer generated so cannot be changed. GIGO was what they were told. I should move insurers and may do that when I am sat at home retired :-)

They can wriggle out of paying due to mistakes they make as well i got caught like this a few years ago short version of the story they had made a typo on the computer for my motor insurance where all the details matched up make model colour engine size everything apart from 1 letter on the reg so when i was stopped and details checked i was up in court for no insurance i flatly refused to pay any fines or send off my licence to have points on it and ended up in court again for non payment of fines

By this time the insurance company had sent me a 100% refund and an apology for messing up which when presented at court got the original charges overturned as we can only read what they supply not what they keep on file in the office, Worked out at near 8 months free insurance but the drawback was they had on file i was done for no insurance so all premiums went up will all companies

Hi shipmates. A few years ago my car was stolen and set on fire,by some feral youths? The police put it in storage pending insurance company looking at it, a burned out wreck? cost them £ 400 a week for 3 months untill someone called to see the car to confirm police report, I was blamed for it getting stolen? it was locked and windows were shut? they some crooked claims adviser try to make out it was done for money? {bull ----} Why would anyone do that? I needed my car for work I had to wait for almost 9 months to wait for a small payout lowest book value in the U.K.{glasses guide} so could not buy a replacement, its a joke the insurance company was one of the supermakets !!! clue{ every little bit hurts} a rip off they insurance is not worth the paper its written on. The premiums were put up for 6 years to claw back what they payed out.no choice but to pay the extra

I have been paying insurance on my combi boiler for the past 5 years because I know the cost of repairs on these things.Three weeks ago we could'nt get domestic hot water,central heating ok.An engineer came and he was clutching at straws as to what it could be,finally decided to change the heat exchange plate,he pointed out to me at the time that there was a bit of muck in it.Off he went, next day no hot water,my wife phoned insurance company only tobe told we are no longer covered as the engineer reports that the boiler is clogged up with gunge.Premiums paid for 5 years now when you need them you get kicked into touch!!!.When you phone up you pay 10p per.min. most of the time to be on hold and listen to music one call cost me £3.50..As we get hot water through the taps when the central heating is on I cant see how the boiler is blocked so it could be the diverter valve.All I want them todo is let me speak to an engineer,cant be done, they now tell me I will have to call in an independent engineer and send them his findings and they may reimburse me.

I pay insurance to one of the energy suppliers , They service my system . The engineer this year called out to a fault told me that despite three years servicing from his company that the boiler was incorrectly installed , and it needed an opto-ignition module that he did not have . It was 4:30 in the afternoon and he had just received a call to a job twenty miles further away from his home . I rang back and got the engineering team leader out the next day . My boiler had been originally installed by the manufacturer , so When he arrived , I got them on the phone , The next day , another engineer appeared , and repaired the problem without needing any spares . I have compared notes with a Gas Safe Engineer who is a personal friend , and the engineers on that particular company have a habit of finding reasons not to do late in the afternoon jobs .

MAy I suggest that you let the insurance company know that as you have no hot water or central heating that you and your family will be staying at Radisson BLU until you get an answer and that will be at their cost , might wake their ideas up a little .
