This is the main problem with the EU. It will take generations, if ever, for common prices across all members. How can you have the same price for a loaf of bread in Germany and Romania? Two countries at extreme ends of the economic scale. Prices of goods are normaly relevant to wages, the higher the general wage standard the higher the price of goods. But it goes further than that, it is alsoa case of life style. In the poorer countries they often queue for basics such as bread which for many is a basic staple diet, where as in Germany they is more money spent on luxury goods. Then there is the cost of utilities, from what I know a greater percentage of wages goes to gas and electric in UK than in some other EU countries. This is why it is doubtful that equality across the Eu will ever be achieved.

Jim early last year a suggestion was floated here in Oz that debts from som eof these poorer countries be wiped off allowing them to begin with a fresh start. It did gain some support but sadly the major stake holders, mainly Russia and china would not agree. Both of those countries are major providors of global credit. here is also a political agenda here. If you wipe the sltae clean for them then you have no hold on them. There is a concerted push to ensure that only certain countries, China, India, Brazil do well very often at the expence of poorer nations.

Nearly every Industry over the past 20 years has reduced manpower on the excuse that machines etc can do the job. The only Industry which is overmanned mostly by uneccessary and untrained dead heads are politicians. Why is it necessary to have so many, if any at all. I dont know what the result is in uk is about the libertys of the press, but believe the one in power here is trying to get curbs on same, no doubt she is looking to the forthcoming elections and is worried about the bad press that no doubt will come out about her and her party. If a government controls the press that is the absolute end to Democracy and we are no better than these states that run a government press. The press does run free rein at times but at least with the modern computers etc. people have the right to reply which goes worldwide so they dont have it all their own way. As regards the mess that the EU has got itself into, what does anyone expect, different races and people have different outlooks, you just cant dump the lot in the pot together and hope the mix will come out good. The worlds animal and fauna life has more idea as they keep to their own. There again the average politician has a brain probably below the one of a monkey. Cheers John Sabourn

Hi shipmates, our heavy industry has long gone, what we do today is move money around on computers "City of london" or service jobs/retail every proper job cost more and more to the company,What is needed is new types of Industry and many new jobs will be created the E.U. should become a closed shop, to stop China dumping they rubbish on us ,A 70 % tax should do the trick The Chinese have plenty of people who want they goods in Africa/ and many other countries so they workers wont suffer?

Brian this lady, if she can be so named, is chucking money around like there is no tommorow, but it is only tax payers money so it does not count.

John #36, this so called gov of ours has been after the press for ages, they do not like the truth about them being published. But it looks as if it will get through now after a few amendmenst. Two independents who were so opposed to it have changed their minds, had they not there was agood chance the gov could have fallen. That would have meant an early election and them out of a job. Staying in power is what it is all about, not what is good for the nation.
