    Default ANY ONE FOR SNOWBALLS?

We have seen here on Oz TV some of the snow conditions in UK. My brother in law living in South London said some of the conditions are the worst since 1963, if so how are you all copping with it.
He tells me some of the older folks who cannot afford the cost of heating are having to resort to huddling up in blankets all day to keep warm.
This is 2013 not 1813, would have expected people to be treated that way then. If what he tells me is only half true then some of the older population are doing it very tough.
I hope all of you living there are OK.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

Seems to me that nothing has changed, everyone slams each other for their views etc and the Govts wont do Zilch , because they are voted in by a Minority, Millions of people there dont even know who their local member of Parliament is and even worse they say they dont care.

If everyone made it hard for their local Member at each Election you may well force them to care for the People, its not going to happen real soon.

Its sad such a once mighty Country that had Hundreds od Cargo ships trading around the World has reached a stage where there will be no absolute recovery.
People helped each other from 1939-1945 People were Grateful for a job after that , people were Grateful for peace, a Job in the Merch didnt pay much but it was a great job.

I remember when people were very social to each other, every one spoke , whats happened, even the oldies are forgotten in the UK

Unfortunately Glenn, we are a society now ruled by politicians who have never had a proper job, got their hands dirty or experienced a dole queue. Our politicians of all hues are a product of University where they go to study politics and law so that they can score points at shouting at each other when they finally make it to the House of Commons. Regretfully thus it will ever be as far as one can see. They have never lived in the areas they are purported to represent and only visit when elections are due. They are protected from everyday hardships by the privileges such as subsidised meals, travel, accommodation accorded to them by their assumed status. There maybe a few genuine politicians who have the interest of their constituents at heart, but they are very few, the majority are, or appear to be, in the job (it is no longer a vocation) for their own security and pension rights, even failed politicians get generous pension rights at our expense.

Perhaps past generations of parents are to blame, because we all wanted to give our children a better start in life than we had, and misguidedly didn't want them to go to sea, or down the mines, or into factories when they were 16, but wanted them to stay on at school and better themselves with a view to going onto University. Unfortunately it has backfired in a way we could not have foreseen and we raised generations of people who didn't want to get their hands dirty, and most of whom have forgotten their roots and the sacrifices made by their parents. Not all these current politicians come from privileged backgrounds to start with, but unfortunaetly the products of the parents who made the sacrifices think they should play on the same green playground as those who did.

Regretfully they will never fully understand the man in the street or his (or her) everyday needs because they have always been protected from such needs by their parents and the system they traversed.

My MP is like that, She was born in Pakistan, went to Universtity and studied Law in England and is now a very well paid QC. and MP.
She lives in Surrey, her neighbours are not like ****, She has hardly ever visited Boltonstan, and has spent more time in Pakistan than here.
I can never get hold of her. With all that Education I do not think she can read English, she has never ever answered my emails so I presume , even with a Law Degree , she cannot read.

Now knowing that you can be a little touchy about Yasmin , I decided to compare what she does and her accountability's with that of my local MP George Holinberry ( Meon Valley Hampshire ) . He has his mobile and land line on his website , does not hold formal surgery times as matters can be more urgent than having to wait a few days , he holds informal regular surgeries . Yasmin does one hour a month at Bolton town Hall , and only has the local party office number listed . She also has a long list of what you are NOT to contact her about . I see that she is a Human Rights lawyer , I wonder is she is a pal of Cherie Blare . She is one of the supporters of Black only short lists for labour seats . I don't want to be party political , but I think she stands as a typical example of what Tony and his cronies did to the labour party , they took it away from the Labour voters and made it their own . They get the votes based on what was , not what is , and they are conning their supporters who would vote for a pig if it wore a red ribbon , and often have . I am afraid she typifies what has gone wrong with Labour since the 1950's

    I always remember 1947.
18 months after the wars end, very impoverished nation at the time. It was like West Berlin.
There was a big fuel shortage, the Local Gas Works was selling Coke, bring your own sacks and transport, NINE PENNIES a bag
I was 11 and a half years old that winter, One of the Coldest Ever, with 1942 as bad and 1963 not as bad as 1947.
I only wore short pants in those days, no anaraks , not been inventedm just a jersey full of holes, Clogs with socks with holes in and a snot rag.
I had found an old pram on the tip so I was sent to qeue up at the Gas works, the qeue was almost one mile in length, and it took 4 or 5 hours to get the coke. It was Freezing way below zero, I remember that I had a boil on my bum and it burst and the matter and blood was running down my left leg into my clog, I think I was crying with the pain and cold, tears freezing onto my cheeks.
There was a little old man stood in front of me, shivering, with a large frozen dew drop hanging off the end of his nose.
Then suddenly he fell over and died, in front of me, he lay there for a very long time, some people tried to wake him until they realized he was dead. Frozen to death. It took well over an hour for an ambulance to come and take him away. He was as stiff as a board. no mobile phones in those days.
That was the first time I had watched a man die.
They dont know they`r` born today, I say they dont know they are born. We could `nt even afford Hovis.
    Cheers
    Brian.
