Mobile phone providers
A recent experience with my mobile phone led me to wonder if all providers are as lax with our personal details. I have one contract with the 3 network. The end of the contract was coming up but as the phone did what I wanted it to do I decided to keep it and look for a sim only contract rather than upgrade. When I originally got the phone the bumff said to register it online so I could download all these wonderful apps but as I only bought the phone for its phone calling capabilities I didn't bother. Now though I needed to go "online" to see what my options were so going to the 3 website I went through the process of registering. I was astounded to find all I needed to access my acount was the number of the phone and the IMEI number, both of which are on the phone. This gave access to all my personal and bank details so had I lost the phone before registering it online and it had fallen into the hands of a less than honest person I could have had problems.
By coincidence I was at my ex-wifes house just before Xmas and she was having trouble with a 3 account. My son had lost his phone and she was trying to get a replacement sim card and put a block on the phone he had lost when they informed her he had upgraded to an I-phone 5. It transpired that this upgrade had taken place several days after she had reported the phone lost. It was being delivered to an address several counties away. The person who made the call was unable to provide the security password. etc, etc. The phone companies fraud department were not interested in following this up even though a fraud was being committed and they even had a delivery address. The police were not interested as the phone company had not notified them.I should add that the phone companies fraud department is based in India and the lady there was having trouble comprehending that a crime was being committed so perhaps we are now subject to Indian law or what passes for their interpretation of it. A totally frustrating call for her and had it been me on the phone I don't think I could have held it together.
Had I realised when I took out the contract I too could end up having to talk to an brainless idiot reading off a script on the other side of the world I would probably have gone with another company. Had I realised when I took out the contract how criminally lax the 3 network are with my details I would have definitely gone with another company. Whatever provider you are with, if you haven't registered your phone with an online account, do it now before someone does it for you!
Regards
Calvin

I do not have a Mobile Phone, never had one. I have survived for near 78 years without one so I guess there is little need for one. I dont have too many people left to phone. Another funeral Friday.
so maybe I am better off, a lot of people seem to have a lot of problems with them.
All I see today is people walking around tapping them like a mad Sparky doing fifty words a minute. Whats all that about?
I have a line phone at home BT and that is all I need, hardly anyone calls and I dont have too many left to call.
Just on TV News today , a 17 kid was attacked by four others and killed for his mobile phone,
Cheers
Brian.

Mobile ph providers.
Redlead it is already here. As to mob ph's, my wife got a full on, all the go fast gizmos here in France just before Christmas for true, 10 Eur a month. This includes 1.25 hours of text per month & one 1 hour of talk time, oh it has rom too. Land line local calls are free & ph calls to a lot of countries are yes it seems seems nuts, free for 1 hour? We were taken aback then got told by someone over a drink that evening when feeling cock of hoop about it, hey you could have got one for 2 Euro a month! Why does that always happen when you just bought something or did something I hate it ): Having come form Asia where the ph is always on two year contract & exorbitant monthly price even if you as we do pay for the handset (no competition) don't speak of rom I have regularly got a bill from UK for maybe a week more than 1,200 Stg. Love it. Richard
