' The right to bare arms'.
Since then I have only ever worn short sleved shirts.

john crimes like this are not rare every day car bombs shootings massacres in African villages life is cheep guns will never go away we will have to change our mindset on how the world is. most guns are bought for protection so do we all buy one will it make things better i can't see it? if you live in parts of the world were you are in danger of animals that would like you for dinner then carry one? just my view.jp

Anyone found carrying a gun/knife on their person should face a long custody sentence, and if the Police had the power to stop and search randomly at any time might have some effect, followed up with a house search. who would risk prison just for the sake of carrying a gun and having their house turned over, even the thugs will tire of the Armed Response Squad. Police take this action over drugs. There has to be action soon sometime.

even fire fighters are being shot dead in america what next? i cannot get my head around the mindset of thees people. why send Americans to wars its happening on their own doorstep they are at war with each other very sad.jp

I was hesitant, at first, to post, as this is an emotive subject, but here goes.

I have no answer to the problem, only my own observations of life in a country where all my neighbours have shotguns, hunting rifles and handguns.

To me it is impossible to control the use of guns by the use of a law.

The control of the weapon must come from the society. And the society needs to have the correct culture in order to use that control.

It happened here, Two Police ladies were lured into a trap by a wanted Murderer, on the pretense that a burglery had happened at an address, when they arrived he just shot them both dead. just a few weeks ago in Greater Manchester.
In New York two Firemen, same thing lured into a trap, So the same happens anywhere.

If the carrying of knives was illegal 50 years ago, 50 percent of the MN would have been prosecuted. To see a seaman without a knife was a rarity, as was part of his working equipment and had to at least transport the article to and from his place of work. The old metal detectors in the airports would have had a field day, when his luggage was passed through, the same applies to the chippy who usually carried his own tools. What a different society we live in today. A total lowering of ethics and morals, lack of self discipiline and parental control a lot brought about by our smug and self effacing so called and equal rights do gooders, the lowering of all sentences re crime especially criimes of violence. Open sex on television and movies, what a world to bring up kids. The list of bad things that have been brought about by a greedy society is endless. Sitting at the top of the heap is the politician who let some of these laws through. Why blame the politician?, something bad happens on a ship it is always the master who carries the can, the same applies to whatever government is in. If they cant accept responsibility for a lot of bad laws they have brought, they should find another job to mess up. In fact would be a good idea if they all handed in their notice. Chance would be a fine thing. To even consider gay marriage turns my stomach and can see no bottom to some of the depravity actually condoned by some of the bent indviiduals masquerading as servants of the people. John Sabourn

Hi John.
As you know the State Govt have just passed a law in Western Aus that will hand out a $12,000 fine plus costs incured to any house holder holding a party where police are called out, in response to the horrendous riots at normal house parties that are happening over there. On the TV a do gooder said it was the worst law passed as in one instance the police told a father his son had posted on the website that a huge party was on at his place, the father knew nothing, My question, why didn't he know what his son was up to? it was his house. Maybe a few fines will wake these people up.

Lets hope the government has the guts to follow through with this Des. When the likes of the culprit says he has no money, remove and sell his assets cars house if necessary, ignore the do gooder and human rights activists, there is also a law for attacking a police officer lets see it enacted and the culprit receive a custodial sentence. Its about time these loud mouthed do gooders got what they deserve which is being totally ignored. It would be nice to live in a civil and law abiding community again, this is almost now in epidemic proportions and will finish up with vigilante groups if goes much further. When you get civil unrest in mid eastern countries and the rest of the world is informed of the unrest, they all started with low beginnings like some of the western world is experiencing now. The Law what little we have has to be upheld at any cost. Must be getting old as only had 2 bottles of whiskey over the new year, however did not cause any disturbances as some of these mongrels. Unfortunatel the World has changed too fast and for the worst. People ars spoilt, kids buy cars when they leace school, Single Parentage is now the norm, lets hope a move made by the Govt to stop the Single mothers pension when the offspring reaches the age of Eight, it might put off these young women becoming prenant just to get the single mothers pension.
Manners are another thing that has vanished, and respect for your fellow human being has gone down the Tube, Violence at all night nite clubs, you can buy a gun at the right price in Melbourne.

After the 2nd World War many of us on here enjoyed wonderful years in the late fifties and sixties and into the 70,s when it all started to change, nobody wanted a second hand fridge or furniture, it all had to be new.
Property prices went through the roof, sudenly a small house in the UK became valuable 1980,s Computors came in too, followed by Sat-Nav and every other device like mobile phones, i cant stand the things, Life became worthless to violent Gangs and trouble makers.
Courthouses dished out light sentences. Corruption took over and now we see the result everywhere not just Australia.
