Like others here though,I still feel it is very wrong that non-domiciled Brits can help to shape our country politically if they don't reside here ,or have no intention of residing here...
And what makes you think we couldn't do a better job ?. Is the UK now run to your entire satisfaction ?.
Talking of non doms shaping the country,how about Lord Ashcroft place of residence Belize avoids paying £3.5 million in taxes.Sits in the Lords proposing and voting on how the country is run including income tax of non doms.

What makes you think you could do a better job, you left the country and its citzen's to its fate some 30 years ago, deciding to live elsewhere. Why should someone who skinned out and deserted the country, so long ago have the right to decide how we live. What total arrogance.Quote:

Whether you were born here,or have a British passport,or have right of abode ,you do not live here,and you should have no right to vote in U.K.elections... which is what I'm sure the government site tries to explain by you must be on the electoral roll-it seems ever clearer to me-if you do not live here then you should not be listed as living here on the electoral roll-and therefore you are not eligible to vote.
As a dual citizen of the US and britain I beleive that I can vote in a UK election ,but have not as I have been in the states for the last 46 years , but my wife and I still have a partial pension from the UK after a total of 17 years over there . can I apply for a heating allowance and put it toward my air conditioning bill over here in Florida .will have too look into that . we did,nt get a raise in our pensions over here for 2 years but still got a raise in our pension from uk every april.
Oh but it has everything to do with it. If you two ( Gulliver and Allman) are a cross example of the UK voting public and seeing the state the UK is in
at the present then you've got what you deserved.
After all , us ex pats have the European experience behind us , something sorely lacking in the UK. What arrogance to think we should be denied the
right to help the mother country .
European experience, what a larf, half the European membership are nearly bankrupt and the rest are under the German thumb. If that is an example of the European Experience then the UK is well out of it and right to be lacking in its support.
Help the mother country, thats an even bigger larf. If you thought that much of the mother country, you would be living in it, not skulking in some besotted Euro region harvesting the best financial crop that you can get.
I dont know about it being arrogance to deny you lot, I think its more loyalty to our country and common sense, I would far sooner be a UK resident with some pride in my country of birth, than a UK deserter, a deserter who has no right, in my view, to influence anything at all to do with the UK whatsoever. You live in your Euro world with all its useless and over burdensome bureaucracy and give them this wonderful all encompassing benefit of your experience, as it looks at present, as if they are in need of it.

You,on the other hand,with what will be seen as an 'external' vote because you live in the EU ,would appear to have no right to influence the U.K.polls by your vote.
If you had a UK dwelling then you would be able to vote , but if you had no dwelling what constituency would you vote for , The MPs ( love em or hate em ) represent the populous in an area

Most of us on this site are, or have been world travellers that does not give us the right to insult people of those countries we have visited by telling them that they get the rulers they deserve because they vote for who is available and who they think will do the best for them, sadly at times they are let down by the people they voted for in good faith, that is not the fault of the voter. Having done business with Holland for the last 25 years and visited more times than I can remember I know it is not Utopia and has many social problems and disliked politicians as we have here, USA, OZ, NZ etc etc, we don't always get what we vote for but mostly we are stuck with it for another term.
I have no objection to someone getting a pension pro-rata to which they have contributed and from the posts I've read I think the majority think on the same lines, I may be wrong but I think the majority of us object to illegal immigrants and professional unemployed playing the system, getting far more benefits than someone who has contributed all their lives. We have families of three or more generations who have never worked, state it wouldn't pay them to work and have no intention of working and if you think that is correct, then it is just as well you are not a politician in this once great country that is being brought to its knees by scroungers.
