#10 For those with Bibles look up Matthew 24:7 it must be among that lot somewhere about War, Fire , Pestilence and Earthquakes . Everything that happens today is or was forecast in the Book. Beats the computer every time . JS

Re: 100 year china
Lets look at this in a light hearted way, do we plebs count in the mind of Capitalists? I don't think so, at least not in my nearly 91 years, so why defend something that has never given a Sh$# about how you live. Many people are agog about the city's rising in China to accommodate the people, but here in Aus people are being ripped off wholesale by the banks helped by the reserve bank, one bank alone had a profit of $50 billion for the half year, maybe people think they will reach the same peak.

And yet. Des a country without a workforce is nothing . The work force defines the riches of a country. Like the old song , A ship without a rudder , or a ship without a sail .Today in a motorised world the workers are the engine room itself. JS .

Re: 100 year china
There are countries such as Russia who attempt a take over by force.
Then there are the clever ones such as China who do theirs by stealth.
Quietly they take over businesses, many that may be on the verge of bankruptcy, farms that the younger generation do not want to work on, businesses that move to China for the benefit of lower wages.
They smile and bow, looking so meek, but under that a heart of stone when it comes to take overs.
Some years ago our finance guy went to China with the bank, looking around to see if there were any opportunities for the bank.
What he saw was, factories where vehicles such as BMW, MG, Mercs, Volvo being built under license and the locals all driving them.
But he also saw new towns being built, large tower blocks but all empty.
They were told these ate for the future when more come to China to live and work!!
No doubt they have a plan, we may not see it all in our life time but there will be those who do.
Unlike the west where so called democracy is in play, they continue with the one party system, and it works the way they use it, no in house arguments or deals done to get a bill through the parliament.

Re: 100 year china
So, after considering all the comments, where would we rather be living, China? Russia? Australia? UK? or some other place? Personally, I'd rather be here in the UK during the Summer, and Florida in the Winter.

Re: 100 year china
China bought British Steel in November 2020
This was heralded as a wonderful thing.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-51795414
A Chinese firm completed its takeover of British Steel on Monday. Attached article is March 2020
https://www.cityam.com/british-steel...nment-bailout/ Attached article is October 2022
Jingye Group said that the move would save more than 3,000 jobs in Scunthorpe and Teesside and it would modernise the towns' steelworks.
https://www.grimsbytelegraph.co.uk/n...rescue-8063080 attached article is January 2023.
So in the space of2 years the Chinese are going to screw another £300 million out of the UK Tax Payer
Someone somewhere has some explaining to do.
Screw the Chinese company just nationalise the industry and modernise the plant. Either that or stop steel production in the UK. China cannot be beaten on price. We need to be more self sufficient and were possible reduce foreign imports.

Re: 100 year china
Agree with your comment entirely James, a few other industries should be nationalised too. Transport and power to mention a couple, things us plebs are still paying for and being ripped off on a daily basis.

Re: 100 year china
After the war many industries were nationalised, I think just to get them up and profitable; then the moneyed people took them back for a song, which I think was Money, Money, Money.

Re: 100 year china
Most of our utilities here in Oz were sold off some years ago, but not water.
Now our state premier informs us he intends to restart the ole State Electricity Company.
All sound good but how and where would the money come from to do so.
Yes sure there maybe one or two companies that may consider selling, but at what price.
