Terry, I believe that when that was announced he said he didnt know about it and donated all the cash back to Children in Need, he never charged it again.Just repeating what I read in one of the papers.

#3 and 4.. I always found him a likeable celebrity. As regards the reports about him and his charity donations. The media is always ready to publish unqualified reports about such celebritys, it seems to be a thing with the second rate press, publish, it will keep readers happy, and give him a kick when he"s down. I know of at least 3 cases as was involved in where the printed word did not match the facts. Unfortuanetley some of the information picked up by Google and such is taken from such, and will now remain factual to a lot of people. In a hundred years time historians will be printing such info, as the truth, when in a lot of cases it isn't. It makes one wonder about mans intelligence at times, they take as the truth periodicals where they print stories to make money, and yet refuse to believe the dead Sea Scrolls written by some scribe who probably gained nothing from them. Three blatant pieces of mis- information distributed by the press which I can immediately think off without going into many more personal ones. 1. 1954 Murder on the M.V. Brockleymoor in the North Atlantic. " There are many women on board this vessel" or words to that effect. Truth these were lascar seamen in their Dhotis. 2. "The Captain was stabbed on the High Seas" truth he was stabbed in Dakar. Senegal. 3. The man overboard spent days in shark infested water off the Barrier Reef. Truth he spent maybe half an hour swimming a short distance to a small islet near the Grafton passage which had a beacon on. These were all big write ups in the papers at the time, obviously the press put very little or no investigation before printing such rubbish. Reason to make up a story to sell their paper. JS

    Hi Cappy.
Never saw a lot of Terry Wogan but he was a good entertainer, Many entertainers leave all the payments to the people they sign up to look after their affairs.
May he have calm seas and easy winds.
    Cheers des

12 OF SIR TERRY WOGAN'S WITTIEST QUOTES

    1. ON HIS RADIO SHOW AUDIENCE PASSING THE EIGHT MILLION MARK
“Hang on: there’s 60 million people in the country – what are the other 52 million listening to?”

    2. ON FRUIT FLIES
“Time flies like an arrow, but fruit flies like a banana.”

    3. ON HIS GOLDEN RULE OF BROADCASTING
“Get on your toes, keep your wits about you, say goodnight politely when it’s over, go home and enjoy your dinner.”

    4. ON FAME
“The price of fame? Who in their right mind would want to pay it?”

    5. ON HIS MARRIAGE
“If the present Mrs Wogan has a fault – and I must tread carefully here – this gem in the diadem of womanhood is a hoarder. She never throws anything out. Which may explain the longevity of our marriage.”

    6. ON A MAN’S SUCCESS
“Could it be that behind every great man there’s a woman working him with her foot?”

    7. ON APPEARANCES
“Go out and face the world secure in the knowledge that everybody else thinks they are better looking than they are as well.”

    8. ON HIS OPINIONS
“My opinion has the weight of a ton of feathers.”

    9. ON THIN MODELS
“The girls themselves resemble nothing so much as garden rakes, and bad-tempered, pouting garden rakes at that.”

    10. ON BARBECUES
“Why do men think they know how to cook outside when they haven’t the smallest idea how to go about it indoors?”

    11. ON AGEING
“The only physical adornments which grow bigger with passing years are the nose and ears. The rest, regrettably, diminishes.

    12. ON RETIREMENT
“Retirement is coming to all of us, and as my accountant said to me lately, ‘You’d better think of taking your pension soon, otherwise it won’t be worth your while.”

    Rest In Peace
