Peter Clegg
It is with regret that I wish to inform the members of the Durham Association that my husband Peter T. Clegg passed away on the 27th May 2015, after a short illness.
Peter joined the New Zealand Shipping Company in 1960 and sailed as a cadet on the M.V. Otaio’ in April of that year.
Peter later served on many of the company’s fleet.
Hinakura, Hauraki, Cornwall, Suffolk as 3rd Mate.
Hereford, Hinakura, Devon, Otaki as 2nd Mate.
Otaki, Tekoa, Turakina Piako as Chief Officer, leaving NZSCo about 1978.
Peter retired in 1999 having served as Captain from 1995
I sailed with him in 1970 on the Otaki and again in 1973 on the Essex both times to New Zealand. I have many memories of the ‘old ships’ /real ships and good times.
Yours sincerely
Sue Clegg

Re: Peter Clegg
Yet another Shipmate gone ,it seems that the time is getting near for all us older ones, but that is life and we must accept out eventual and unavoidable fate!
I am sorry to hear of your dear Husband (Peter,s Passing) Sue,and can only send my Condolences and hope that the hurt will not be to much to bare!
Stay strong and know that he will be with you always even though in Spirit only!
He is now at rest and I am sure that his sails will be filled with fair winds to guide him to the places he so loved!
Sincerely
