Richard,I certainly did that run on the maiden trip,we stopped there on the way back to OZ from the West Coast of Canada and the US.Your name is definitely familiar to me.Were you on that trip or on the "Orcades" before that?Quote:

Archie, Sorry I missed your post #11. I was not so well about that time. I was only on the "Orcades" the once as a passenger from San Francisco to Suva just before Christmas 1955. I was after 'tourist' but that was booked out and I went 'intermediate' which was very nice and Dorothy Dodds (her publishing name - she wrote 'Grenada') and her husband were on on the same table. Nice people and when I got back to Sydney they invited all at the table out to their home in Strathfield for dinner.
I see you are in Fife. Used to go Kirkcaldy from time to time when we lived near Blairgowrie in the 1970s.

Hope you're feeling better now.You did that trip on "Orcades" 5 years before I joined her.Sheer coincidence that someone with the same surname as yours was on her at the same time as me.
I too go into Kirkcaldy fairly regularly now.Mainly to keep Hospital appointments!!How I hate this"growing old"business!!!!

The only time I met another Q was Murray V Quartermaine. His father Lance H must have been having a giggle with the MV as he established LH Quartermaine & Coy Ships Chandlers in Fremantle, Western Australia. Impossible to miss at least as one left the wharf for an Emu Bitter or Swan Lager, on the waterfront was this name in big lettering. From a chance meeting with Murray we became lifelong friends and his 'children' are still in touch with my son in South Carolina. Murray was murdered a few years ago. Quite a character he was and I miss meeting up with him in the various places he and I visited as the years went by.
I also think this "growing old" business has whiskers on it.

Now you have me wondering,is it possible that's where I came across the name?I visited Fremantle four times only on "O Boats",perhaps that's why I've always subconciously associated the name with those ships!Funny how ones memory can play tricks on one,Now we'll never know if you had an unknown relatative!!!!
