    hello Cappy ....
No it happened before my time. I heard the story when i was on board and again somewhere else. Apparently it happened while waiting for a transit of the Suez Canal. I did not hear about the whole crew getting a DR. Though its possible in those days. I would have liked to have helped but in those days an apprentice would have been keel-hauled for assisting.
    cheers

    Hello Len
Yes its a good list of ships . Theres a story for each of them too, good and bad. I'm still going offshore. Slowing down a little these days. The MWS job the best retirement job in the world. I hope to be able to take it along the road for a couple more years...cant afford to retire, too many people to support.
    cheers, thanks for the response.

Apparently, The name change took place whilst the ship was at anchor
in Suez waiting for a convoy North, and wasn't noticed until the ship
was alongside in the Isle of Pain.

It was said that the Old Man DR'd the entire deck crowd ?

Did you ever come across the Dutch drill ship Mariner ? My only claim to knowledge of such was brought her down from Singapore to W.A. In the 90s she was small enough to lay her own 4 point Moor. JS
Just looked at the original date of this post.so if you are still around , hope your retirement worked out as expected. Look before you leap should be my motto in future. JS
