    Hi Bryan,

    I think we must have sailed together on San Gerado as I was a Deck Apprentice on that ship from February to May 63 when I paid off in Thameshaven to go into hospital for some more surgery.

    Pete Scane was another deck apprentice on her.

    I think the mate was John Gittings. I remember him telling the bosun to get the crowd painting over the side in Algiers harbour in the pissing rain. When the bosun pointed it out, Gittings replied "The pilot says it shouldn't be raining, get the men painting over the wall."

    Strange what sticks in the memory.

    I remember San Gerado being a happy ship and I was sorry to be paid off early.

    Methinks Peter you may have to wait a while for an answer, bryan's post was in 2011 and he hasn't made one since, but nothing to stop you giving us a few highlights (or low if you prefer) of your career
