    Hi Des,
    Dont ask me when it was,but i know that my late brother was on The British Aviator as Second Engineer! The thing that i am puzzled about is that i cannot get a record of this voyage of his,any ideas!

    Did the maiden voyage of the British Hawthorn in 1964, second of the tree class. Got a hernia loading ships stores, but she was a good ship.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

    Default BP Tankers sailed on.

    Hi me hearties;

    My first venture into the unknown and misterious world of maritime servitude was on the British Bulldog back in 1957. I recall that we signed on in Tilbury and were then bussed to the Isle of Grain. I was one of two deck boys, both first trippers. At the time, the Suez Canal was still blocked, care of that nice Mr. Nasser, so we had to go all the way round the Cape, with only the occassional glimps of land. We called at Tennerife for bunkers after three days and, 28 days later, tied up at Mina-al-Ahmadi (Kuwait) for 12 hours. That's how long it took to fill her up with crude. After another thirty days at sea, we arrived back at the Isle of Grain, where I promptly announced my resignation. Four hours in Tennerife and 12 hours in Mina over a two month period was not my idea of seeing the world. Still, the ship was pretty good and I had no complaints foodwise. More later, so 'bye for now folks.
