hi taff, i sailed on the british navigator feb 62 , got fed up going in and out of suez to aden and back to the med, jumped ship in Mombasa had a good time there for 6 weeks then dbs back to uk on tintagel castle last ship packed up the merch took up truck dring for 42 years now retired living in spain

Gull (as mothership, BP Layup Services)
Border Falcon
The best ship was the Ambassador, only 17 days going anywhere, the remainder of the 4 months 18 days was either broken down or in for repairs.
The worst ships were the 2 big ones, Surveyor and Purpose ( I don't like losing sight of land).
Lay up was fun, over in Brunei Bay, it could hardly be called work.

Hi Len, Like you I spent a fair bit time up and down the Gulf, and I remember the galley staff did once use the shore galley in Mena, but apart from that I dont remember any cooking restrictions, Wonder if it was only the oil burning stoves that had to be turned off? Cheers, Albi

My first ship the British Confidence, I joined her at Falmouth on the 27th of September 1967 3 days after my 16th birthday. We sailed from Falmouth to Tabruk then to Milazzo Sicily back to Tabruk and on to Finnart refinery near Glasgow where I paid off and it took 23 hours to get home to Penzance on the train.
I also sailed on the British Ensign and British Judge between 1968 / 1970.
I also remember the smell of a tanker, I have had a laryngectomy so I now have no sense of smell but I have those memosies even though I smell awful.
