Hi Mates, I was on a few, all decent , good accomodation, good food, and "Ratings & Officers alike" really nice blokes, but funnily enough the best one was the old "British Patrol" running from Grain to Scandinavian ports with products not "Crude". That ship was so laid back it was like a pleasure cruise. VERY HAPPY DAYS.

    Default Life back at sea

Hello again. Well I did the crossing on the Oasis. A lot, lot different from the old days. Great time though and the ship is truly amazing. The engine room is incredible and there is so many computer screens down there it's hard to believe there is any engineers down there (but the overalls give them away). Then as amazing as the engine room was the bridge is even more exciting. The ship is driven by three Azi-pods and several bow thrusters so it can turn in its own length. Gone is the chart table, no more big rubber hood covering the radar.

And from the point of view of what I was doing there is over 1000 Access Points throughout the ship and coverage everywhere.

Booz is a lot more expensive that the officers mess on an old BP Tanker though ;-)

I enjoy reading through the threads here but it seems most of the people who are posting sailed on ships in the 60's or earlier. Where are all the folks who sailed in the 70's?

Keep well everyone, hope you all had a great Xmas and an even better New Year (me, I'm off to Vegas to see the new year in).

I haven't come across anybody who sailed on the 'British Caution' yet. I did a few trips on her in 1952/53.
