Re: Israel what is next???
Ivan no one is stirring,
(1) why would you not recommend living or working with Palestinians ? I have worked with Palestinians , training them as Cadets, never had a problem. They took the opportunity to get on in life. Certainly put in more effort than thosee from wealthy Arab states.
(2)Unless I am wrong 44% of the Palestinian people voted for HAMAS 2006 not been a general election since.
(3)You are talking about what HAMAS did !!! yes they did and I am certainly not defending those actions.
I am often accused of being out of step, well looks as if world opinion is certainly out of step with some of the posts here.
For a people who suffered what they did in the war during the Holocaust one would think they would have some empathy for there neighbours.
As usual folks here have a very tainted view of what is actually occurring in that region long before this recent conflict erupted.
Israel want the the land and they will do any and everything to destroy the Palestinian people to gain control in the West Bank and Gaza and to hell with world opinion.
Speculation that Benjamin Netanyahu was well aware of the impending threat!!! it suited his political ambitions.
Re: Israel what is next???
#262 Ivan remember the anti British sentiments displayed by certain individuals less than two years ago. Just ignore reasonings coming from unqualified and bigoted quarters . Bias is rife there looking to gain ingress and tactics have changed as previously proved unsuccessful. JS
Re: Israel what is next???
Surprising what has come to light in this conflict. Qatar has the largest US airfield in the Middle East, and have 8,000 troops stationed there, I wonder why that is? I know that they bomb a country they are not at war with' Syria, they say they are killing Isis members, and there I was thinking that Isis had been defeated. OIL that is the main reason for the US's presence nothing to do with supporting Israel, if the oil moguls in the US didn't get $billions from there poor Israel would be gone long ago.

Re: Israel what is next???
[QUOTE=James Curry;425311]Ah !!! The United nations and the international community do not recognise the West Bank as being part of Israel.
The Palestinian territories are the two regions of the former British Mandate for Palestine that have been occupied by Israel since the Six-Day War of 1967, namely the West Bank (including East Jerusalem) and the Gaza Strip. The International Court of Justice (ICJ) has referred to the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, as "the Occupied Palestinian.
(A) The Palestinian Mandate to give it's true title included what is all of Jordan and Sinai, what is called Jordan were previously known as TransJordan before that Palestine. Jews were allowed access to East Jerusalem to a very small part of the Western Wall, but Jordan then blocked access.
What folk forget is the term "Nakba" (English Catastrophe) also applied to Jordan when the Palestinians were forced out at gunpoint in September 1970 after a short civil war with the Royal Jordanian Army under King Hussein.
Why do you not hear cries of "The right to return".
The PLO moved to Southern Lebanon which were renamed Fatahland and shelled Northern Israel. The PLO actions resulted in a 40km deep invasion Civil War broke out amongst many factions which ended up in Beirut being occupied. Civil war atrocities resulted in the Maronite Lebanese massacring PLO refugee camps Sabra and Shatila, the Syrian army by this time had turned on the former allies Fatah and the PLO. The Palestinians then left in ships heading to Tunisia as refugees once more.
Why do you not hear cries of "The right to return"
Following the Invasion of Kuwait and Yasser Arafat support for the Iraqi invasion, when peace came the Kuwaiti Government expelled all Palestinians from the country, in doing so they reduced their population by 18%
Why do you not hear the cries for "The right to return"
Have you actually any experience of living or working with Palestinians?
Yes, extensively in the Oil & Gas industry, found the Iraqi's, Egyptians, Iranians and Kurds to be all good guys, as for the Palestinians ..... I place then on the same level as the Saudis, near impossible to teach in a group of more than 1 person. Arrogance and contempt to others are what holds them back
You are condeming a people because of the actions of the few. Yes the raping and the killing of Jewish girl was barbaric. One would hope that those responsible for that Barbaric act will be caught and punished accordingly
More than a few
Israel builds houses on its own land, no doubt but the west bank and Gaza are Israeli occupied lands.
Gaza is not occupied, Ariel Sharon a "Hawk" used the army to remove every settler, every jew by end of 2005, Gaza is Jew free and self governing. In 2006 elections held and Hamas becomes the biggest party in the Palestinian Legislature, 2007 Hamas wants total control not a coalition with Abba and the PNA. They fight, kill and expel the PNA from Gaza, publish Charter calling for the eradication of all the Jews (Worldwide) and the wiping of Israel of the map. The US cuts off funding to Gaza diverting it to Abbas on the West Bank and the PNA
Re: Israel what is next???
We have here in Oz a fair number who came from Palestine over the years.
Most have assimilated within the local community and appear to be a peaceful lot.
A large number of rallies here mostly in Melbourne all supporting Palestine, very little support for Israel.
If the news broadcast today is correct then some of the Arab nations close by will be involved in bringing a peace settlement to the table.
There is no doubt atrocities have been committed by both sides, but that does not make it right.
Whilst many people voted for HAMAS, did they really know exactly what they intended to do?
Mixing such nations together in the one region will always cause problems.

Strike a bit near home James! no one mentioned any names, but you know the old saying:-
'If the cap fits, wear it!'
Re: Israel what is next???
#261 James, you forget that when the butchers raped and murdered a young Israeli girl, they threw her body in the back of a pick up truck and drove in to Gaza where the "ordinary", peace loving Palestinians ran out on to the road gleefully shouting and mutilating her body. They voted for hamas and if hamas did the same again, they would be jumping up and down with happiness. They're all the same.
I see the imams are jumping up and down in UK shouting from the pulpit for the death of all Israelis and the destruction of Israel. What makes it interesting is the cops saying they're not doing anything illegal and can't do anything! Abu Hamza was arrested and deported some time ago, so why can't they use the same laws for this lot of disgusting animals. Sorry to the animals.

Well one thing we agree on is Saudis not my favourite people. I have also worked with those you mention apart from Iranians. I always found that those from a poorer background tried harder to get on and that was certainly the case with Palestinians. I suppose it is how you treat those you are involved with.
Concerning Israel building on Palestinian lands ,

Maybe worth a read.
Well we will never agree, not often I find myself being in step with world opinion. Israel have used a sledge hammer to crack a nut. All they are doing is stoking the fires for the next time.
Fingers crossed this is not the next time.

Just watching the news let's hope common sense will prevail and a cease fire can be maintained, but will not hold my breath.
Re: Israel what is next???
Ever notice a recurring event with most things happening. We have two ideas from individuals and trying as hard as can be to be the one that is right. Same with climate change, elections and other changes. Nothing gets done after all the venting of spleens. Latest conflict has been brewing for decades but hey lets turn a blind eye to this until it gets to the stage it has now. Think that it is about time for all the old codgers to stand aside and let the reins go to the next generation and stop interfering with their future prospects. Lets face it? Our generation has proved that we can monumentally stuff up almost anything.
