Hugh Annan
Hello.
Help requested please as trying to help a friend find out more about her Grandfather.
Hugh Annan was born 18 Sept 1898 and on the 1911 Census (age 12) is shown as an "inmate" on The Wellesley Training Ship moored on The River Tyne. i understand that this was to prepare men from poor background for a career in the Royal or Merchant Navy. I have found that during the war he served in the Merchant Navy and his service No was 816496. When he was discharged his discharge number was 782217. It would be fascinating to see if any more information exists about his service, perhaps ships he may have served on during WW1 if that is possible. Any help/advice appreciated.
