Doc,
Many thanks for those logs, very helpful indeed. Would you still require the larger discharge book images, as I can email them instead?
Cheers.

Re: 1939 - 1945 Researching Grand Fathers service
Hi, my dad served on Royal Ulsterman’s sister Royal Scotsman so I’ve done a bit of research on the pair and found quite a few images of both in the Imperial War Museum Archives. I can give you image references, a handful have been digitized and can be found on line but at the time I found them many had not. There is also a Polish company which makes scale model kits of the pair in wartime fit in 1/700. It’s just possible the producer found stuff of interest to you in researching the kits. I’m in touch with the manufacturer if you’d like me to ask specific questions or put you in contact. The Ulster maritime museum holds drawings for Royal Scotsman which I got electronic copies of. They are copywrited so I won’t post images here but could post spare hard copies if of interest.
I can’t find Aase Maersk on the Murmansk run but you can browse Arctic Convoys (and other Convoys) for your grandfather’s ships here: ConvoyWeb - Russian Convoys
If you think he was on Arctic Convoys on another ship, you might look on Facebook in the group Arctic Convoys - Forgotten Heroes, an enthusiastic group of veterans’ relatives, a small number of veterans and some very knowledgeable historians and researchers.

Initially, can you clarify his service, was it RN as you mention. Possibly meant Merchant Navy or
both ? MN and RN wartime ?
Keith.

Re: 1939 - 1945 Researching Grand Fathers service
Hi Carole
If you have some Papers of his , can you make out a Number on it please! It would be a Six Digit one with Prefix R or if Royal Navy then would be a different sort of Number. His Year or full DOB would help a lot.
Thank You
