Tony Connolly ... Steward with Port Line in the 1960's

Hi There does anybody remember a scouse Steward by the name of Tony Connolly ? ( he sailed on many a Port Line ship of the time ) he was a real character and I had the pleasure of doing two trips to Aussie / Kiwi , actually one and half trips to be exact , with him ... what a lot of laughs and other experiences we had.

Cannot find a trace of that Surname on the National Archives site,so may be a different spelling?
Possibly Connely ,Connelly ??
Wil keep looking. Any idea on what Year he was Born or something to go on! Could his first name have possibly been Anthony and was just known as Tony.

Hi Doc ... You are possibly correct re the spelling , Connelly is maybe the correct spelling ... nobody knew him as Anthony but it was probably his full name ... he would have been born around about 1942 and he came from the Liverpool 7 postcode area ... I went to visit him in the 90's but was told that he had passed away , sadly.

Hi Norm..I was with Port Line a bit earlier March 1950 to Sept 1956 then went to
Beaver Boats till 1959.did 7 trips on the Beaverglen and 14 trips on the Beaverdell.

Any of you lads remember a steward from around the same era late 60s early 70s by the name of John Hillier, John was a very unusual story if it was to be believed { I have been told often enough } He sailed with a good crew of scousers including myself on the P@O Holyhead run, Then apparently joined the Port Chalmers here in L,P,ool And ended up in a tank regiment in the Army. Now that's what I call itchy feet...……………….

Hi Frederick ... Always good to learn of other seafarers seagoing careers , were the Beaver Boats as good as Port Line , am guessing that they would have been otherwise you probably wouldn't have done 7 trips.

Getting back to your reply re. Tony Connelly ... excuse my " computer ignorance " and my " newness " to this sight but how do I find Vol. 36 & Page 717 ? ... I have tried the obvious avenues but have drawn a blank.

Hi Norm again, I found Beaver Boats OK just wanted a change, Port Boats were usually 6 month trips,
Whereas Beavers were 1 Month, made a change from hot climes in the summer to freezing your whatsits
in winter especially up the St Lawrence needed an ice breaker a couple of times, photo Beaverdell passing
