Hi Sonja and welcome.
With regard to his Merchant Navy service, given his age and the year of his death, I think there will be little in the way of records. The Fifth Register of Seamen only started the month and year that he died so nothing will be held there. That means the only personal records would be held in the Fourth Register of Seamen up until December 1940. There is nothing for him there that I can see.
The advice I would give you would be to look at the crew agreement for OROPESA in 1940 and the last one for 1941 and hopefully you will see his name mentioned in the crew list.
For the year 1940 - BT 381/729
For the year 1941 - BT 381/1384
The crew agreement will tell you if he had a previous ship or, as I suspect, that OROPESA was his first.
