It says it all, I am approaching 80 after a lifetime at sea. In the end, regardless of what we have a achieved or haven't, it all comes down to this wine women and song, and like you I have certainly had my share and in the end, no statues, no fine words, no hymns of praise, just my memories, and they will be of my life at sea and all the fun I had.

I was on board passenger Canadian Pacific and Cunard ships for most of my MN career. Plenty of opportunity to meet girls. So I can relate to all that has been said about a girl in every port or in my case every port and ship. Because of the run it was mainly Liverpool, Southampton, Montreal, and New York. I also met a beautiful Canadian girl and fell hopelessly in love with her. Her name was Helen Shepherd and she lived in Sudbury, Ontario. I was so in love with her I nearly joined the OPP - Ontario Provincial Police. Sadly I lost touch with her but I still think about her from time to time. Keep safe. Terry Foskett R748632

I was very lucky when a cadet friend gave me the name of a young lady who he had met, with her parents, travelling to Lagos on one of the company mailboats. He very generously wrote to her advising that I would be regularly in Lagos as part of my practical training in those ships. A whole year when every six weeks there was a five day turn-round in that port. She was a very attractive Scottish hairdresser who had a job at a salon that catered for expatriate women. The five days gave enough freedom to visit beaches, expat clubs and their swimming pools, nightclubs and restaurants et al. Romance blossomed. When she and her family returned to the UK I used to travel across the Penines from Liverpool while shorebased training. Even picked her up to take to my 21st. to meet all my family. Regrettably, she decided to join her parents when they emigrated to the USA. I visited Lagos a number of times subsequently, but it was not the same. I subsequently married a 'Flying Angel', one of the hostesses at the Mersey Mission to Seamen. Both saved me from a life of debauchery. John Martin R845313

Then a day nor so after sailing a queue outside the medical center where a load of pricks were waiting for a prick.
I met a lovely girl in Melbourne in 1946 and whilst with Port Line managed some more meetings.
Next meeting was in 1998 and we got married in 2000 , unfortunately she died in 2002 but am still living happily in Oz on her daughters property.
