    Default 1950 - 1960 My Dad's service

    Dear All

Doing a bit of research for my Dad (Fred Lacey R525985), steward - his internet is currently down so helping him out a bit. His list of ships (not sure in what order) include from 1950 - 1956:
His first ship was the Port Victor From Victoria docks on 21st March 1950.

    Port Brisbane
    Port Phillip
    Port Napier
    Port Halifax
    Port Montreal
    Port Auckland
    Port Welington
    Port Lyttleton
    Port Adelaide (1952)
    Port McQuerrie
    Port Fremantle

From 1956 to 1960 when he was discharged he was on Beaverdell and Beaverglen.

He has loads of pictures from these days and some are of the ships cats on one trip - Ginger Rogers and Spats being 2 of the names I remember. Would be nice if there's someone from those days that remembers him - now 77.

    Hi

Just checked with Dad. His first ship was the Port Victor - I think I left that off the first post. Set off from Victoria docks on 21st March 1950.

    Regards
    Sue

    Default Freds Daughter

    Hello Sue

I was on the Port Dunedin 9th May 1950 to 8th October 1950 and Fred and I would have passed each other somewhere between London , NZ and back.

However, in April 1952 I was on the Royal Yacht Gothic (Shaw Saville) and we were alongside in Port Chalmers, NZ (the port for Dunedin) the same time as the Port Victor. The picture below shows The Gothic in the foreground, Mataroa (Shaw Saville) beyond her and the Port Victor further over.

Ask Fred if he knew of the Lowlander, an Italian ship (war confiscation) operated by Port Line. She was my first ship. Why not post Freds pictures on this website for us all to enjoy and maybe have links to them.

    Best wishes to you both.

    Hi

Thanks for the picture - Dad still needs to scan all of his to upload on to the site so should be on soon hopefully. Says he doesn't remember the Lowlander unfortunately but does remember the Gothic coming in to Auckland with Queen Elizabeth on board in December 1952. Dad was on Port Adelaide at the time and has photos of the Gothic coming in. Prior to that he had been to the Fijean Islands just before the Queen arrived in Suva before she went on to NZ. He should soon be logging on to the site himself as internet up and running again so can fill in any gaps.

    Regards

    Sue
