I seem to remember the Saguenay ships being painted with “Silverene” paint overall. That was around 1956.
Recall steaming downstream past Three Rivers (St Lawrence) and seeing a cluster of them laid up due to a major strike. A few transferred to the Bermuda Flag to keep sailing but a eventually the Ocean Going Canadian Merchant Marine was disbanded and only the LAKERS fly the Canadian Flag nowadays. It is interesting to read the many Posts of later sailings. Were they under the National Flag or a Convenience Flag ? Thank you.
Ps. I originally heard the strike was about the current pay but much later learned it was all to do with WW2 promised pay and reneging on retirement and scholastic assistance and Veteran Status. Much like the US Merchant Marine experience. Still a sore that will not heal in my remaining life time.
