MN Associations and NN bodies Worldwide
I have attempted over the years and try again: to find e.mail and contact address for MN Association or related bodies Worldwide. Esp: Aus, Canada, NZ, SA etc. I have never really got results, feeling a bit dumb as advised today our own National MNA, should be able to provide all and will follow up. Meanwhile: through this site could unless I have missed it, could we not provide similar details and bring everyone and our Nationals closer together etc.
The USA, Canada, UK. Singapore, Hong Kong, Australia and New Zealand now recognise the 3rd September each year as "Merchant Navy Day a Day of Remembrance". I for one would love to be able to contact all.
CAN YOU ASSIST?
PLEASE !
KG.

Greetings Keith; here in Australia we are somewhat fragmented, (it's a big country). The associations of which you inquire tend to be of say:- the Vindi Assoc or the ships companies in which we served; ie NZSCo or SS&A. I have no knowledge of a National or International Assoc based here. Even though a great many of us live here most tend to live in the warmer states of the East Coast hence NSW & Qld seem to enjoy greater membership. The Vindi Assoc tried to get off the ground here in Melbourne but failed due to lack of interest.I play golf with a couple of guys who testify to this unfortinate occurance.
The closest network of ex merchant seamen world wide would appear to be members of this valuable web site,4,000 odd and rising. On the day that we remember the valiant men who served in times of war carrying precious cargos to sustain Great Britain and the Commonwelth will, I sincerely hope, grow over the years to come. The indefatigable Castleman (Vernon McDonald) is our lynchpin , the glue, that binds us down here.
Any of you blokes who read this and live in Melbourne or within coee please get your skates on and get to The London at noon on the 3rd Sept
Hoping to meet many of you, and cheers Keith. Best regards to all Mort.
