Identifying uniform
Hello, I am doing research on a neighbour of mine who died in 1942 on the HMS Olympus after it hit a mine leaving Malta. He joined the RN in 1938 but I have found photographs of him prior to joining the RN in a few different marine uniforms and I am wondering if they are merchant marine. His relatives only knew of him to be in the Royal Navy. Would I be able to post the pictures here and see could we identify the uniform and if it is Merchant Marine I might be able to find out more about him.
Thank you very much,
Patrick Mulligan

Re: Identifying uniform
In Talbot Booths's His Majesty's Merchant Navy. A single wavy braid on sleeve signifies a third or junior radio operator. Hope this may help.
Bill.

Re: Identifying uniform
His name is Frederick Makim Crowe,
Born 20/12/1918.
If he was in the Merchant Navy he would have been there around 1936, 1937 as he joined the RN in 1938. Would there be any way of checking.
