Philip Spong
looking for info on my brother Reginald George Spong who served with BP as a Catering Officer from around 1961 - 1987 - may be too late but if anyone can recall him please let me know.
Thanks

Re: Philip Spong
Hi Philip
Thanks for the Post, hope that you have a good stay here with us !
As for any Documents on this Person, as he was still at Sea after 1972 there will be no records to find as they stopped record keeping in 1972.
However later on it did resume but Years later!
Cheers

Seaman Pouches for Spong here , he is not listed.
Search results: Spong | The National Archives
There are three principal sources of service details for merchant seamen up to 1972 (from 1972 go to the Maritime and Coastguard Agency). They are:
- Central Index Register, 1918-1941 (also known as the Fourth Register of Seamen)
- Central Register of Seamen, 1941-1972 (also known as the Fifth Register of Seamen)
- Seamen’s Pouches, 1940-1972 (created primarily as files for paperwork supporting applications for discharge – files can contain paperwork from both the Fourth and Fifth Registers)
PS: I am awaiting an E mail reply from the Maritime Coastguard Agency regarding the Records of Seaman that served beyond 1972, like the Person in Question.
