    Wow!

    Just wow!

Thank you so much Doc and others who replied to the original post. I’m unsure how to like each post so thought I would reply.

I was going through the vessels he had served on, Googled one of the names and up came my own post and the rest of this thread that I hadn’t yet read!

    I am overwhelmed.

Yes, my father John Albert Green was born Sept. 13, 1925; he would have been 99 this year. (He died on my 10th birthday, Oct. 31, 1972).

I just learned my father was likely aboard the SS Cameronia when it was torpedoed off Algiers in December 1942!

Do I get his seaman’s pouch from the National Archives to find out for sure if he was aboard?

I have a lot to learn. Can I apply for some sort of medal for him posthumously, I wonder? I do not believe he ever received one for his service.

Again, thanks for all the help so I can reconnect with my late father, in a manner of speaking.

    Hello Nick
Gald it may help in your Quest.
Yes the Seamans Pouch is available from Kew London and you can apply for it online, you will have to join the Archives, but that part is free. Then once you have asked for a copy, they will send you a reply Email, giving you the cost , which you can accept or reject. There is however an 8GBP fee for initialising the search which is non refundable , wether a file is fond or not!
The pouch will have limited info only though, so you will need his CRS10 for his complete Sea Service Records
    Cheers

His CRS10 should be held in the following Series.
If applying for this, also always Quote his Seamans Pouch Number in your request .
